There were several rumours of the playmaker moving to an another club but none of them materialisedHis future might be in doubt but the German international is still only 23! There has never been any doubt over his quality. Let’s not forget he performed on the biggest stage of them all, the World Cup final, scoring the winning goal against Argentina. As the season comes to its conclusion we look at the 5 likeliest clubs that would sign the player in the summer transfer window.

#5 Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid are a club, despite limited resources are able to compete with their much more cash-rich rivals in Barcelona and Real Madrid. Over the years, Atletico have had players like Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa, Fernando Torres all play for their famous strip.

But when a club offering higher wages come calling they can do little but let go of their talent. But they have always found a replacement. After Diego Costa’s departure to Chelsea they found a gem in Antoine Griezmann

The Frenchman has been in fine form this over the last few years and has scored plenty of goals despite a not being a striker.

Griezmann is predominantly a left sided player but is still the top scorer for the Red and Whites this season. This has mainly been due to that lack of top quality striker but the winger along with a strong defence has helped quell that problem.

Gotze might be the perfect replacement for the winger since he has similar qualities and can also play on the wings albeit without a less prolific scoring record. His addition will also help lessen the burden on the 24-year old’s shoulder. And with Diego Simeone in charge, there is no doubt Gotze will thrive under his tutelage

#4 Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint Germain Laurent Blanc

PSG have been on top of the French footballing pyramid for the last four years. Ever since their take over in 2011 by the Qatar Sports group PSG have seen a major overhaul of their squad and their dominance of French football has become something of a spectacle.

This season they are so far ahead of their competitors that they have built a 23 point lead over second-placed Monaco. To emphasize the margin of their lead Monaco are only 22 points ahead of the highest placed relegation team.

The only competition they really haven’t made a mark is the Champions League. PSG definitely have a good squad but Mario Gotze would be a very good addition to their team of stars. With Lavezzi reaching the end of his career and being a regular performer for the squad Gotze might just be the perfect solution.

With Ibrahimovic’s contract also running out this season Gotze will be a player they will try to start with in order to rebuild the squad. PSG’s ambition will surely be to win the Champions League next season and adding the German to their ranks will help them get closer to a squad that can challenge for that crown.

#3 Real Madrid

Isco Goetze

When it comes to buying the best players in the world whatever the price tag maybe Real Madrid are the first to enter the bidding war, and more often than not they are victorious too. In recent years they have made several high-profile purchases.

The likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria have all made the move to Madrid. Despite Gotze not having a great 2015 he is still a top talent. There is no doubting his quality, something he has shown on several occasions.

Real Madrid are set to lose another La Liga title to Barcelona. They also might see the departure of several regulars in the summer and Zidane might think of a major overhaul of his squad to really challenge Barcelona.

There is also major doubt over the future of their playmaker Isco. Under Zidane, he seems to have gained a regular spot but it remains uncertain whether he woiuld want the Spaniard to stay come end of the season.

There is also the issue of Jame Rodriguez. The Columbian was bought for a hefty fee but hasn’t lived up to his potential at the Bernanbeu. Zidane might look to have another option in that position as well and Gotze might just be the answer

#2 Manchester City

Pep Guardiola

Manchester City recently announced the arrival of Pep Guardiola after the manager signed a 3-year contract with the Sky Blues. The Spaniard was the most sought-after manager in England after he announced he wanted to coach in the country and City beat their rivals to his signature.

Mario Gotze initially joined Bayern in order to work with the coach. Despite him not being a regular this season he has performed admirably well when given his chance. His first season for the club was good but injuries have slightly hindered his progress.

There is no doubt Guardiola would love to take his pupil with him to Manchester. With City’s squad aging several players might face the axe come this summer

One of those players who isn't getting any younger is David Silva. The Spanish playmaker has also been affected by injuries and recently turned 30. He along with De Bruyne are City’s most recognized playmakers.

But his performances have not been up to the mark this year. He hasn’t dominated the midfield like he usually does which has been one of the reasons for City’s under par position in the table.

With De Bruyne also able to play in that position Gotze might be the solution for City’s woes on the left-hand side. The German probably wouldn’t pass up a chance to work with one of the best coaches in the world.

#1 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp

A reunion with Jurgen Klopp? A chance to play under the manager that launched his career? Why not? It would be the perfect fit. Klopp gave Gotze his debut in 2009 and he grabbed his chance with both hands.

In his second season with the club he scored and notched up 11 assists Dortmund won the Bundesliga title in the 2010-2011 season. Gotze was linked with a move to Liverpool in the January transfer window when Jurgen Klopp had just taken over.

But Gotze said that no contact had been made at that point of time and he also denied he would be moving in January. Speaking to Daily Express he said,”No one has contacted me yet. I can rule out a move to Liverpool this winter," Gotze said. "I don't know where the rumours about Klopp and me are coming from. I have not heard anything. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool. If he wants me, he should approach me.”

Gotze would probably fit right in at Liverpool since he is already familiar with the Klopp’s philosophy. Given Liverpool’s current predicament a player of his quality will add something different to the side and will give them a major boost.
