Top 5 Transfer Rumours of the Day: May 23

A look at top 5 most anticipated football transfer speculations from todays newspapers.

#1 Bayern duo will not join van Gaal\'s Man United

New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set to be dealt his first transfer blow for the English giants as club target Thomas Müller is likely to reject a chance to rejoin his former Bayern Munich manager.

The 24-year-old is keen to stay at the Bundesliga champions and Bayern Munich have no intention to sell their star youth product. Müller was said to be one of several transfer targets this summer for the Red Devils following the appointment of Van Gaal last week.

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has ended Manchester United’s long term pursuit of signing German midfielder Toni Kroos. Kroos, also a Bayern Munich youth product, was identified as a transfer target under former boss David Moyes.

#2 David Luiz set to join PSG for 50m

Paris Saint Germain are on the brink of completing a sensational £50 million deal for Chelsea defender David Luiz. A deal is set to be agreed between both the clubs in the next 48 hours, making the Brazilian the world’s most expensive defender.

The 27-year-old was believed to be a subject of a transfer battle between European heavyweights Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but the French outfit are now favorites to land the former Benfica star. Luiz was likely to leave the Stamford Bridge after Blues’ skipper John Terry penned in a new one-year deal earlier this month.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is now expected to use Luiz’s transfer fee to land Atletico Madrid star striker Diego Costa as the Portuguese eyes attacking reinforcements this transfer window.

#3 Manchester United ready to sell Marouane Fellaini for 15m

Manchester United are willing to offload midfielder Marouane Fellaini for £15 million – 10 months after signing the former Everton man for £27.5 million. The Belgian was David Moyes’ only marquee signing last summer and has been a huge disappointing signing since.

Fellaini has made only 16 appearances in all competitions and has failed to score a single goal for the Red Devils this term. And with David Moyes departed, questions are being asked over the midfielder’s future at the club as it remains to be seen whether Fellaini will be included in Louis van Gaal’s plans at Old Trafford.

Several Premier League clubs could be interested to move for the 6’ 4” midfielder, who was a star performer under David Moyes in his time at Everton.

#4 Loic Remy holds talks with Premier League giants

QPR striker Loic Remy has reportedly held talks with Liverpool and Arsenal over a summer switch. Both the clubs have long been linked with the French International, who has attracted interest from several clubs after an impressive loan spell at Newcastle United.

Remy, who has been included in France’s World Cup squad, netted 14 times in 24 starts for Newcastle. The 27-year-old is contracted with QPR until 2017 but he is likely to leave the club this transfer window after claiming that he wants European football next season.

The former Marseille striker was spotted at Emirates in Arsenal's final home game of the season against West Brom, fuelling rumours that he is keen to move to the North London club.

#5 Fabregas could head back to Premier League

Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are said to have entered a transfer battle for the signing for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. According to reports in Spain, the Catalan club are ready to cash in on their homegrown player after failing to impress since his return from Arsenal three years ago.

The Gunners are considered favorites if the midfielder also remains keen to leave the La Liga runner-ups this transfer window. However, after failing with three bids for the 27-year-old last summer, Manchester United are prepared to offer £35 million for Fabregas in quest to solve their midfield problems.

Manchester City have also shown interest in the past, but their local rivals and Arsenal remain in pole position to bring the Spaniard back to the Premier League.
