WWE Night of Champions 2014: Superstar Ratings

A major portion of the time that WWE had to build up Night of Champions was spent to promote the John Cena – Brock Lesnar rematch. The in ring action between the two supported this move but a botched ending crashed and burned the entire pay-per-view for WWE.There weren’t even one match worth remembering for the fans at Night of Champion as all the expectations fell flat on the ground. The returning Ambrose was arguably the brightest spot in the entire night as his energy was clearly missing all these time.Champions didn’t have the best of nights as three titles were changed with Lesnar also ending up in the losing side thanks to Seth Rollins. It was nowhere near the standards of SummerSlam in every aspect and here is a look at the superstar ratings for the PPV, which the company would categorize as ‘forgettable’.

#15 Mark Henry 6.5

Henry is someone who has made United States proud in various occasions but Night of Champions wasn’t one of them. The match that was supposed to push patriotism into the crowd barely made it happen. Henry would need a lot of rebuilding after that lose and putting him back into the team with Show might be a good option.

#14 Dolph Ziggler 6.5

Just when the fans thought that Ziggler was going to get the share that he deserves, it is back to square one for the Showoff. Dropping the title to Miz will do no good for Ziggler on the longer run and WWE must make that Bray Wyatt feud happen soon if they want to keep Ziggler relevant.

#13 Cesaro 7

The moment that the Internet fan base has been waiting is still far away after Cesaro came out of Night of Champions with a loss. As always it was a great match from the Swiss Superman and hopefully this lose would take him up rather than down the ladder.

#12 Rusev 7

The Bulgarian Brute secured his biggest win till date when he took down the world’s strongest man. It wasn’t up to the standard of the match that he had with Jack Swagger before SummerSlam, but getting a win over someone like Henry is something that will stand out from his resume.

#11 The Usos 7

To be frank, the title reign of Usos was getting a bit boring since they weren’t having much competition. The Dust Brothers seemed like a completely random opponent for the Usos, but now that they have lost the title, it would be wise to invest the team elsewhere rather than putting them back into the title picture.

#10 The Miz 7

The Moneymaker struck gold once again and this time also, it was at the expense of Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler was a bit unlucky to lose the way he did at the pay-per-view but this shows the WWE’s intention of pushing the duo of Miz and Sandow to bigger things.

#9 Chris Jericho 7

Jericho didn’t have a particularly good time during his current spell with the WWE but as it moved towards the end, Jericho started producing the performances that he was known for. It’s too bad that he has to go on tour with the band when he found his rhythm back.

#8 AJ Lee 7

AJ was supposed to be overshadowed by the Bella feud at Night of Champions, but the crazy diva came out shining. It will be another title reign for AJ after her win but the chapter with Paige seems far from over as the two divas have more to give.

#7 The Dust Brothers 7.5

There was too much potential in the new character of Cody Rhodes that the company wasn’t able to just let it pass by. It was a deserving win for the brothers and this reign would be entirely different from their previous one thanks to the change in gimmick of the Dust Brothers.

#6 Randy Orton 7.5

Many might doubt the credibility of Orton as a main event star, but at Night of Champions, he silenced his critics. It was a vintage performance from the Viper as he showcases his technical ability as well as his experience when it comes to competing in pay-per-view matches.

#5 Seth Rollins 7.5

Rollins was getting the heel heat as usual during his initial segment and a returning Ambrose helped Mr. Money in the bank to shine brighter. However, it was Rollins’ interaction with Lesnar and Cena that stole the headline. There are a lot of questions left unanswered after this segment and Rollins will have a big role to play in the follow-up.

#4 Sheamus 8

Sheamus is one of those wrestlers who give his cent percent without letting the fans know that he is putting in so much effort. However, it was a bit different this time. Everyone saw that Sheamus having some awesome momentum throughout the match and the win was just an icing on the cake.

#3 Dean Ambrose 8

The Lunatic fringe made his big return to take out Rollins at Night of Champions and it was in true ‘Dean Ambrose’ style. He came out of nowhere and took out many men while giving WWE a big door of possibilities to build and angle with in the near future.

#2 Brock Lesnar 8.5

Lesnar is sure to be pissed off by the efforts of Seth Rollins to take advantage of the opportunity. He was having another epic match with Cena while Rollins played spoil sport. Heyman would be asking for answer from the Authority after this screw up and this makes Lesnar more intriguing.

#1 John Cena 8.5

Not only Lesnar, Cena would also be looking to tear apart the Authority after what went down at Night of Champions. Unlike SummerSlam, Cena actually had a chance for level pegging this time against the Beast. However, he would not be happy with a no- disqualification win which cost him the title.
