Top 5 breath-taking dives that made you go OMG! at WrestleMania

The adrenaline that pumps through one’s vein while taking a leap have always managed to grab the attention of WWE fans. Vince McMahon to his credit has made use of this factor to his advantage on a plethora of situations. The hair-raising moments that we have seen so far in the company is because of this and WrestleMania has been a stage for a handful from the lot. With bigger stages come bigger risks and this might be the reason why WWE pushed the envelope a bit further in every WrestleMania occasion. At WrestleMania 31, WWE has booked a ladder match for the Intercontinental title and we are bound to see some high flying action. Before that, here is a look at some of the memorable high flying efforts in WrestleMania history.

This would have definetly topped the list if it wasn’t for Lesnar botching it. A man of his size going onto the top rope and trying a move like the shooting star press is a moment worth remembering and since it was a near death experience for Lesnar, it deserves an honorable mention.

#5 Chris Benoits diving head-butt

All of Chris Benoit’s matches don’t technically exist anymore according to the WWE but it would be hard to erase Benoit from the memories of WWE fans. At WrestleMania 21, Benoit was part of the inaugural Money in the bank match and pulled off an insane move amidst the match.

He climbed on top of a ladder and performed his trademark head-butt onto Kane who was lying all the way on the mat. It was a nasty collision to be frank and the rabid wolverine was seen bleeding rapidly after the move. The studies later proved that the head butts had a negative impact on his health and in turn lead to the tragedy which shocked the entire professional wrestling business.

#4 Ladies and Gentlemen, Shelton Benjamin

If we make a list of most underrated superstars in the history of WWE, Shelton Benjamin is sure to find a place somewhere on top of it. He was known for his athleticism in between the ropes and WrestleMania 25 showcased it in plenty.

Benjamin was in the Money in the Bank ladder match at the show and took a leap of faith. He jumped from top off the ladder into his opponents standing below on the ground and not having anything apart from human bodies to break up the fall was probably the scariest part about the move. Fortunately for Benjamin, none of the superstars botched their catch, and he landed safely.

#3 Shawn Michaels gives an elbow to the chairman

Shawn Michaels had a rare match with Vince McMahon back in WrestleMania 22 and since Vince couldn’t be a Bret Hart in the ring, WWE made matters more realistic and booked this one as a street fight so that Vince could brawl his way out of the whole thing.

It was a highly advertised squash match at the end of the day and Michaels went to the limits in punishing Vince. At one point of the match, Michaels put a garbage can over Vince and forced him into lying on a table. The heart break kid then climbed the biggest ladder he could and delivered an elbow to the chairman. To make matters a bit more interesting, Michaels showed a DX chop before the move and teased a DX reunion, which made the fans go nuts by the way.

#2 Shawn Michaels splash from Ladder

There is a reason why Shawn Michaels is called Mr. WrestleMania, and the second consecutive entry into the list serves as a great example for the same. Michaels is responsible for some iconic images when it comes to WrestleMania and his splash from top of the ladder is one among them.

Michaels and Razor Ramon had the first major Ladder match in WWE at WrestleMania X and the Intercontinental championship was on the line. It is regarded as one of the best one-on-one ladder matches in the company’s history and even though this move is not as flashy as the other ones in the list, it was significant and iconic at the same time.

#1 Edge spheres Jeff Hardy

The TLC tag team WrestleMania matches is responsible for some of the most breath-taking moves in the history of the pay-per-view and Edge’s sphere to Jeff Hardy in 2001 is quite arguably the best from the lot.

The match saw Edge and Christian, Dudley Boyz and the Hardyz fighting it out for the tag team championship and it was booked in such a way to be the benchmark for everything that followed. Filled with high spots and dangerous segments, the match had fans at the edge of their seat. In one of the sequence, Jeff Hardy was hanging from the Tag team championship nearly 20 feet above the ground.

Edge on top of another ladder took down Hardy with a trademark sphere and presented the fans with a moment to cherish.
