Commonwealth Games 2014: Athletes village infected by diarrhoea and vomiting

The Athletes Village at Dalmarnock district of Glasgow, Scotland, that is about to host the 20th Commonwealth Games, is hit by diarrhoea and vomiting, the event organisers have confirmed.

A possibly "highly contagious," virus has spread among the workforce and an official spokesman said: “We have been made aware of a small number of diarrhoea and vomiting cases being reported from workforce in the village, which we are investigating.” It is also informed that the workers are instructed to stay at home and seek medical help.

"Any village resident with any signs or symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting should stay in their rooms and contact the polyclinic for assistance by telephone or through their team management.

"Workforce should notify their manager and avoid coming to work. If symptoms appear while on shift, workforce should contact their supervisor. Please remind your teams about adopting good practice in the use of regular hand-washing and sanitizer," read the warning.

The athletes are about to arrive in the village for the games that is scheduled to start on July 23 .
