What is the plot of Those About to Die?
The story takes place in Rome in 79 AD when it was the wealthiest city in the world. As its empire expanded, Rome had an increasing number of slaves leading to unrest and violence among its citizens.
To keep things under control, Roman leaders provided their people with free food and grand spectacles like horse racing with chariots or animal fights coupled with gladiator combats.
These events are run by four major corporations: Blue, Red White, and Green groups. Their shares are considered to be among the most valuable possessions in Rome and they drive the thriving illegal gambling rings.
As bloodlust grows, Rome’s center of entertainment becomes the Colosseum which is being built at this time. The series follows those who live by these games, revealing what happens within society during such cruel times.
However, the series also tries to investigate power dynamics in politics and survivalist instincts in a place where thousands are sacrificed for general amusement.

Filming for Those About to Die began in Rome during the summer of 2023. High End Productions commissioned this series by AGC Studios, with Centropolis, Hollywood Gang, and Street Entertainment as its producers.
The writing team includes Academy Award-nominated head writer Robert Rodat who wrote The Patriot and Saving Private Ryan. Marco Kreuzpaintner co-directs the series while executive producers include Emmerich, Harald Kloser, Gianni Nunnari, Herbert G. Kloiber, Martin Moszkowicz, Oliver Berben, Jonas Bauer Charles Holland Stuart Ford, and Lourdes Diaz.
