On April 23, 2025, X page @FearedBuck posted a clip of DDG commenting on how his ex-partner Halle Bailey would've been a great fit for the movie Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan. In the video, DDG says:
"I think Halle should've been in that movie. I wish she would've got that..."
The rapper added that he thought of Halle while watching Sinners, and some of the scenes made him realise how she would've been "perfect" for a role in the film. DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr, mentioned that he thought so because he'd seen Halle Bailey in the 2023 musical/drama The Color Purple.
Halle Bailey hasn't commented on her ex-partner's statement suggesting she'd be a good fit in Sinners. However, internet users quickly took to X to comment on Darryl's statement on his ex-partner, as one user questioned:
"DDG hyping up Halle in a flick called Sinners is WILDLY poetic. Like is he rooting for her... or projecting his own guilt with a side of popcorn??"
"I don’t think he said anything wrong here, especially with him even referencing The Color Purple. I think she would’ve did great in Sinners," a user commented.
"Why does he even keep bringing her up?! Genuinely confused… You don’t have to drag her but stop talking about her she does not do the same for you at all!! And wasn’t he just saying he can barely see his son like bro move on you look dumb at this point!!" another X user mentioned.
Additionally, netizens speculated that Darryl wants to get back with Halle Bailey.
"He tryna go back home," a netizen tweeted.
"Yep, he definitely wants her back," another stated.
"Sure bro that’s your bm we understand you gotta support her," one X user said.
"I just want to see my son, that’s it": DDG recently claimed Halle Bailey is keeping their son away from him
On March 8, 2025, DDG released a track called Don't Take My Son wherein he supposedly claimed that Halle Bailey was trying to keep the rapper away from their son, Halo. Suggesting the same, the lyrics of the song read:
“Don’t take my son because he’s all I got/ I’m just having fun, I don’t love these th*ts.”
In another line, the rapper suggested that Halle Bailey was trying to make him pay to see Halo, which angered him. On the same day, DDG talked to his fans via a live stream, adding context to the situation.
As reported by Billboard on March 10, Darryl said that he didn't like involving fans in his personal life situations, but he had no other option. Stating that he was aware of the fact that "the internet moves people," the rapper said:
“I just want to see my son, that’s it. I love being a dad and I want to be a dad, plain and simple. I think I’m the first ni**a to ever be canceled for wanting to be a dad. It’s dudes out here that get glorified for being deadbeats.”
DDG and Halle Bailey went public with their relationship in January 2022 and welcomed their son Halo in December 2023. However, the couple announced their split in October 2024, stating they would remain friends and co-parent their son.
