David Harbour, who plays the character Jim Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things, has finally addressed the rumors of his breakup with Lily Allen. In an interview with GQ Hype published on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, David was asked about split rumors that have been around for months. In response, he confirmed that he and Lily Allen have not broken up and called the rumors "hysterical hyperbole."
"I'm protective of the people and the reality of my life. There's no use in that form of engaging [with tabloid news] because it's all based on hysterical hyperbole," Harbour said.
This is the first time he has opened up about this issue publicly. Though the actor has previously talked about his bipolar diagnosis in public, he finds talking about breakup rumors "a salacious s***show of humiliation." While dismissing the rumors, the actor admitted that his life is experiencing a huge shift.

Lily Allen has also been refraining from answering this question directly. In February of this year, Allen spoke about attending a multi-week treatment program during an episode of Miss Me? podcast. She said:
“I just feel very grateful to have been given the time and the space that I needed. I went into a sort of treatment center for a few weeks, which was great. I did a lot of group therapy and some individual therapy and I needed some time and space away from everything.”
She further added:
“It’s a lifelong journey of healing. It’s not a quick fix, but I’ve started meditating. I meditate two or three times a day [and] that’s really helping me.”

Rumors of a marriage split between David Harbour and Lily Allen have been surfacing online for months. In December 2024, the Daily Mail reported that David was spotted on celebrity dating app Raya.
The rumors picked up steam when the Stranger Things actor attended the Critics' Choice Awards and the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live without his wedding ring. Also, Deux Moi, the Instagram account known for sharing celebrity gossip and sightings, shared a post in February in which David Harbour was spotted with Ellie Beers Fallon in Georgia.
