The 50-year-old twins spoke to 7News Queensland about how their mother was trapped in an armed carjacking on April 21, 2025, in Queensland, Australia. Recalling the incident, Bridgette and Paula said:

“And one guy, he was up there with our mum… he goes, run, he’s got a gun. And our heart started to pound. And I said, ‘Oh, mum, where’s mum?’ And poor mum was stuck up there.”

They also mentioned that their brave mother approached the robber because he had blood all over his face and asked him if he was fine. She offered to help the criminal despite his warning her that he would shoot. Describing what happened next, Bridgette and Paula mentioned:

“Mum distracted him to make him look the other way, and he looked the other way, and mum ran into the bush behind the fence. The guy goes, ‘I’ll find you and I’ll shoot you.’"

Expressing concern for their mother, the twins recalled hoping that the robber wouldn't shoot. While one sister started the sentence, the other one caught up in between, and they completed their sentences in unison.

Bridgette and Paula Powers forayed into animal rescue work after meeting Steve Irwin. The twins first garnered attention at a global level after their 2016 interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan. The former Good Morning Britain presenter dubbed the exchange "one of the greatest interviews I have ever conducted in my life." Morgan asked the sisters how they were able to speak in sync, and they mentioned that it came automatically to them, stating:

"We don't know how it happens. Some people say, 'Do you rehearse a conversation?', and we said: 'no, how can you rehearse a conversation?'"

Additionally, during an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Company in 2021, Paula and Bridgette put forth a theory about their brains thinking alike at the same time. The sisters mentioned that their habit of speaking in unison annoys a lot of people and that it doesn't feel right to change it.

As per SBS News, the Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue was at risk of closing two years ago until a businessman made a donation to keep it afloat.
