3 reasons why WWE is pushing Kofi Kingston

Will Kofi Kingston finally capture the gold in WWE?

From having a solid performance in the six-man Gauntlet match - to an impressive show of resilience inside the Elimination Chamber - to a singles match for the WWE Championship at Fastlane, Kofi Kingston is probably in his best run in his career. It is quite impressive considering the fact that Kingston was not even supposed to be in the Gauntlet match. Mustafa Ali was the scheduled sixth man in the Elimination Chamber match - however, an injury kept him in the sidelines. Kingston got the lot to fill in for him.

Kofi Kingston showed us what he is capable and pulled off a couple of magical performances in just five days. Now, WWE is behind the Kingston hype and is giving him a well-deserved push. In this list, we will take a few reasons why WWE is pushing Kofi Kingston all of a sudden.

#3 The fan support

If you think the fans are totally helpless in making important decisions, then I am afraid that you might be wrong. There are many signs like giving a WrestleMania moment for Daniel Bryan and turning Becky Lynch face that suggests WWE is indeed listening to its fans. Kofi Kingston's case is no different. The Dreadlocked Dynamo had garnered much fan support in a span of five days - thanks to the brilliant booking and awesome execution by WWE and Kingston respectively.

WWE might not have been expecting such massive support for Kingston. The crowd pop for Kingston was very loud, and none of the other participants in the entire Elimination Chamber PPV got a louder pop (except maybe for Becky Lynch). The overwhelming crowd response was not a fluke - as Kingston got some of the biggest pops on the next episode of SmackDown Live as well.

#2 Reward for Loyalty

It has been 11 years since Kofi Kingston made his WWE debut.

WWE loves and demands loyalty from its employees. There is a reason why WWE removed Chris Jericho from SmackDown Live's opening promo. Even though we bash WWE for many things, the largest professional wrestling company in the world often rewards loyal employees - sometimes with a big push on the screen, and other times by providing them important roles behind the screen.

Kofi Kingston has been a loyal WWE employee for over a decade. Kingston has endured some bad booking and rough patches over the course of these years. Thus it is only fair that WWE pushed Kingston. Kingston could have easily quit WWE and move on to the Indie scene, or other promotions like New Japan Pro Wrestling, where talents like him have brilliant scope for success. But Kofi chose to stay, and WWE is probably rewarding him now for his loyalty.

#1 To pacify the fans

The WWE fans can be very vocal sometimes - case in point: Roman Reigns promo after WrestleMania 33.

We, the WWE fans, have been bashing WWE for not pushing some of the top talents that deserve to be on top, at least for a small time. Kofi Kingston is one such guy. There are a lot of other guys who had the WWE Universe behind them, but WWE did not do anything because they had other plans for the main event scene.

However, in the current scenario, WWE has nothing planned for Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship for Fastlane. The reports suggest that WWE still has not confirmed an opponent for Bryan at WrestleMania 35. Thus, this is the perfect time for WWE to give a non-title push to Kingston.

There are many reasons why this is a win-win situation for WWE

  1. Bryan will have a filler feud.
  2. The fans will be happy, at least temporarily.
  3. If the fan reaction is overwhelming, WWE could even extend this feud until WrestleMania.
