WWE News: Cruiserweight Championship match set for upcoming episode of 205 Live

Th
205 Live is going strong - and things are hotting up!

What's the story?

After yesterday's announcement that next week's 205 Live will see members of the Cruiserweight Division take on WWE's United Kingdom Superstars, another huge announcement has been made regarding the future of 205 Live.

On May 29th, Cedric Alexander will defend the Cruiserweight Championship on 205 Live, immediately after SmackDown Live, against Buddy Murphy.

In case you didn't know...

Alexander won the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania as the culmination of a tournament to crown a new champion saw him take on Mustafa Ali.

He has since successfully defended the title in Saudi Arabia against Kalisto at the Greatest Royal Rumble and has been in incredible shape.

On a slightly different path, Buddy Murphy has found himself caught between being incredibly impressive in the ring, but having to be weighed constantly to ensure he is suitable for the division - even being "disqualified" for being over 205 pounds and making his comeback in recent weeks.

The heart of the matter

WWE has announced today via Twitter that Murphy will get a shot at Cedric Alexander's Cruiserweight Championship on May 29th after SmackDown Live.

Drake Maverick confirmed the news in an interview with Cathy Kelley, attributing the opportunity to Murphy as being well deserved and given due to his recent form.

What's next?

Well, next week, the Superstars of 205 Live take on the UK's top talent in London. It'll be interesting to see what match-ups occur and if Murphy or Alexander are in action ahead of their showdown at the end of the month in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Author's take

205 Live has turned a HUGE corner since pretty much the turn of the year. With Triple H at the helm creatively and Maverick giving the show some stability and authority onscreen.

It seems that the booking, character development and "entertainment" aspects of the show have finally caught up with what the cruiserweights have been doing in the ring all along.

Personally, I can't wait for this match. Both men are incredible competitors and their styles are incredibly different, so this should be interesting!
