Five worst finishers in WWE

If there has ever been anything so realistic that has enthralled so many children and adults alike, it has been WWE. Ever since the days of CWF, this brand has caught the eye of many and attracted them towards itself.

WWE acts like a magnet except that it attracts everyone, whether north or south. Of the collective mankind that followed this endeavour down the years, most believed that it was real. They made up their mind that the storylines potrayed were real. Their minds ignited with fury when they saw the heel bashing up their favourites.

While the crowd, for one part believed this, it was actually the extraordinary effort of the wrestlers and the writers which kept the brand live in the fans brains. The wrestlers, on most times played their part to perfection such that it became more appealing than ever before. It drew crowds like never before and was going on to become one of the most popular forms of entertainment around the world.

Through the decades, we have seen some of the best wrestlers pass through. Hulk-Hogan, Stoe Cold Steve Austin, Andre the Giant, The Undertaker to name a few. In all these people, it was their finishers which were the most appealing part of their show. Stone Cold’s Stunner was a mighty crowd-puller and who can forget The ‘Tomebstone Piledriver’ from the dead man.

For all the reality that these finishers potrayed, there were some which literally gave away the kayfabe. They were a disappointment to say the least and gave away the authenticity of Vince’s Company. Let’s take a look at the top 5 :

The Cobra

Considering Santino Marella is predominantly a comic character in the WWE between the action-packed sequences, you would expect something foolish out of him. But even for such a character, a finisher like the Cobra is too ridiculous. Seriously, that doesn’t even seem like a normal move, leave alone being the finisher. And, added to it the fact that the victim of the snake-charmer wraths and screams in pain is the most ridiculous thing you would ever watch on Television. Surely, this one gives away the kayfabe and puts serious doubts on the viewer’s mind.

The People’s Elbow

Considering, that the first on the list was a listless gimmick, the second person is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. The first ever ‘third generation wrestler’, his rivalry with Steve Austin was the holy grail of the WWE at the start of the attitude era. His catchphrases, out-of-the-world promos and his heel portrayal made him one of the most loved wrestlers of all-time. The People’s Champion for whom fans would tune in to their television sets every week had one big flaw in his arsenal. It was his finisher. His astronomical popularity never did make up for his failure to perform a finisher to match his stature. The people’s Elbow, the more stylish of his finishers was one that caught the eye of the public. But truly speaking, it was the proverbial mile away from revealing the true face of WWE. It hardly seems like a good one. He does the theatrics and comes with up an elbow drop. This, painful as it maybe surely would not lead to a pinfall or his opponent lying breathless. This does make the list as one of the worst finishers and one that could have given away the kayfabe.

Tito Santana – Flying Forearm

TITO

Throughout his career, he signed for many brands but failed to impress either. He had a less than satisfying wrestling career and this was only complimented by his poor moves on the ring. While in the WWE, his so-called finisher was “ the Flying Forearm”. Surely, a man with that poor a finisher can’t expect to make a life out of the WWE. It is just a forearm strike on the leap. No one in WWE universe is so bad as to get knocked out by that sort of a move. It was completely unrealistic and really gave away the kayfabe in WWE.

Scotty 2 Hotty – Worm

scotty

16 years with the WWE, 3 World titles and lately a firefighter. Doesn’t seem too bad a record, does it? But his finisher is probably the most ridiculous you would have ever seen in the WWE. What amazes me about the finisher is the fact that the pre-move theatrics and stunts are better than the finisher itself. For an ordinary chop, we have to watch 20 long and boring seconds of his stunts. Then, the opponent seems to writh in pain wanting for medical help. Come on, this is WWE. Not some Gymnastics competition. This one would have given the Cobra a close fight to revealing WWE’s secrets.

Rey Mysterio – 619

Rey M

One of the best high-flyers ever on WWE, he was a surprise package when he entered into the fray. Soon enough, he did establish himself as one of the best wrestlers of the attitude era. But one thing his arsenal lacked was a proper finisher. Given his body physique, you couldn’t expect a powerbomb or a piledriver, but the 619 is way too ineffective to be a WWE finisher. A simple kick to the face after theatrics, none of the superstars would go down after such a move. And the build up to the move brings in a lot of questions. Suspiciouly enough, everytime a superstar faces Rey Mysterio, mysteriously though, they lie with their face on the rope after what seems like an ordinary trip. Showing a 619 finish off giants like Big Show and The Great khali is a hard bone to chew even for the most hardcore fans. While bringing Rey Mysterio was one of the best moves, his finisher is one of the biggest mistakes. He surely makes the top of this list.
