Gunther will return to WWE RAW in Columbus, Ohio, tonight. It will be The Ring General's first appearance on WWE television since Sami Zayn ended his record six-hundred and sixty-six days long Intercontinental Championship reign at WrestleMania XL.

The return of Gunther is taking place just one week after his arch-rival, Sheamus, returned to in-ring action. It is possible that The Celtic Warrior confronts him tonight as he had been teasing going after The Ring General prior to his return from injury.

Gunther and Sheamus want the Intercontinental Championship

After being humiliated by Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL, Gunther will likely demand a rematch for the title tonight on WWE RAW. On the other hand, Sheamus is also in pursuit of the title as he has never won it in his career. Michael Cole mentioned on commentary during The Celtic Warrior's return match against Ivar last week that the Intercontinental Championship is the one title he has never won, which may be a hint that he will go after it soon.

Therefore, both men could get involved in the Intercontinental Championship picture alongside Sami Zayn and Chad Gable heading into WWE Backlash.

WWE could set up a match between Gunther and Sheamus at Backlash

Gunther and Sheamus have collided twice in the ring, and both times The Ring General came out on top. WWE may want to have a third match between them at Backlash in France, so the company may set it up tonight on WWE RAW. Both men had a classic the last time they faced off at an international Premium Live Event, so Triple H may want them to repeat it next month to give the French crowd a memorable match.

Gunther and Sheamus may end up on different brands after the WWE Draft

Sheamus was a part of SmackDown before he got injured, but he returned on WWE RAW last week. Therefore, it is possible that he will be picked by the Red Brand during the upcoming Draft. Gunther, on the other hand, moved from SmackDown to RAW in last year's Draft, so he may return to the blue brand following his Intercontinental Championship loss this year.

WWE may want to give a proper ending to the rivalry between Gunther and Sheamus before both men possibly end up on different brands. They have been taking shots at each other over the last year, so the company may book a short feud between them, leading to a final bout.

Sheamus took a dig at Gunther ahead of WWE RAW

Ahead of his return to WWE RAW tonight, Gunther took to Twitter to promote his first on-screen appearance since WrestleMania XL.

The former Intercontinental Champion stated:

"The General of the Ring is back on #WWERaw."

Sheamus then responded to his tweet by questioning who The Ring General was.

Apparently, The Celtic Warrior is not done with Gunther, so it is likely that the two men will cross paths on WWE RAW tonight.
