WWE News: Jim Ross says that nothing is confirmed on the WrestleMania 33 deal

There is still no confirmation from the man himself about calling a match at WrestleMania

What’s the story?

Jim ‘JR’ Ross, who recently lost his wife Jan, has had his name in the news as of late with the possibility that he might commentate on one WrestleMania 33 match which is supposedly the Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship.

However, when asked about this during WrestleCon in an interview with Dave Penzer for Hannibal TV, JR neither confirmed nor denied these rumours.

In case you didn’t know...

Rumours have been surfacing for the past couple of days about JR’s involvement at WrestleMania 33.

Despite his wife tragically passing away last week (to which the wrestling industry showed massive support for JR and his family), JR has been in Orlando for WrestleMania week, as he believes that is what Jan would have wanted.

According to the Pro Wrestling Sheet, JR will be a guest announcer for one match at this year’s show, much like at WrestleMania XXVIII when he called Triple H vs The Undertaker, and nothing else.

The heart of the matter

JR was asked a number of questions during the interview, regarding WWE and otherwise. These included his thoughts on TNA not working under its old management and his judgement of the build-up to WrestleMania 33, to which he stated:

“I think it’s an outstanding card, because it’s got something for everybody”.

Naturally, he was asked about his speculated appearance at The Ultimate Thrill Ride, and he answered in an optimistic but not affirmative manner. Or, to quote him directly:

“Nothing final, but you know how wrestling is, never say never. I am a broadcaster... And I look for gigs, I got clients. So if WWE wants to use me Sunday night, I'm available.”

What’s next?

Regardless of his commentating schedule, JR will be present at WrestleMania 33, and it seems like the only way we will definitively know if he’s calling a match is if happens right there, with no prior confirmation.

Author’s take

Perhaps the reason JR has not confirmed these rumours is that WWE has asked him not to, in order to keep it a surprise. In any case, having Jim Ross commentate on a match will be nostalgic to many, and will add a certain weight to WrestleMania to truly make it feel like the biggest show of the year.

If he is to call the Universal Championship match, it will have a great many more fans be excited to tune into it, seeing as its general excitement is minimal at the moment. Let’s all hope we can experience a little bit of WrestleMania to the sound of JR’s iconic voice.
