A glimpse of the WrestleMania 33 set

What’s the story?

According to an excerpt from the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, WWE Senior Vice President of Event Technical Operations, Duncan Leslie, has spoken about the hard work behind the construction of the WrestleMania 33 stage.

In case you didn’t know...

Several photos of this year's WrestleMania stage have gone viral over the social media in the past few days. The images depict that WWE is indeed serious about the “Ultimate Thrill Ride” tagline for WrestleMania 33 and have reflected the same in their set design for the event.

The heart of the matter

Leslie, in the interview, shared an interesting statistic regarding the creation of the enormous stage:

“Between 400 to 500 people contribute to this, whether it’s (information technology) guys, loaders, crane operators, riggers, lighting folks and everything in between.

There will be (more than) 100 semi-trucks bringing in gear all week long.”

Although Duncan Leslie didn’t reveal whether they are actually constructing a functional roller coaster or not, he did share some interesting numbers behind the construction of this mammoth set.

Apart from the aforementioned mass of people, WWE also hired 200 to 300 stage hands locally to build up the mammoth WrestleMania 33 set.

The entire team is not only constructing the WrestleMania set but is also responsible for preparing the Amway Center for the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony and NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

Apparently, there will be more than 1,000 lighting fixtures on the set and that WWE is planning to use more LED videos for WrestleMania 33 than they have ever done.

Production Designer Jason Robinson added that the production crew was also preparing for the sunset and that they will be incorporating the natural daylight in the representation of WrestleMania 33.

What’s next?

WrestleMania 33 is just two days away and the WrestleMania weekend is upon us. Starting with the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony tonight, this will be a pretty busy weekend for the wrestling fans.

Author’s take

WrestleMania season is the best time for any wrestling fan as WWE presents WrestleMania as the biggest event in live entertainment. Every year, the promotion tries to overshadow their hard work for the previous WrestleMania, by presenting the fans with something bigger and better.

In fact, the sole purpose of constructing the massive stages for WrestleMania is to awe the fans as they experience the Show of Shows. As Duncan Leslie himself stated:

“We want the fans to say ‘Wow’. We all put our heart and soul into this. We really do it to make sure that our fans walk away feeling that they truly experienced something”
