On this day in 1975, wrestling legend Nick Bockwinkel ended WWE Hall of Famer Verne Gagne’s 9th AWA World title reign which lasted for 7 years in St. Paul, Minnesota. This was Bockwinkel’s first world title reign and it lasted for almost 4 years. Gagne went on to become a 10 time AWA World Champion when he defeated Bockwinkle in 1980. Gagne retired as the champion and the title was awarded back to Bockwinkle in 1981.
