The WWE roster goes through the occasional shake-up in addition to the annual Draft. Officials often send superstars, ring announcers, commentators, and other talents back and forth from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. New details on a recent change have been revealed from backstage.

Mike Rome joined WWE in April 2016 as a ring announcer for NXT. He was called up in late 2018 and has since worked various roles on RAW and SmackDown. The latest ring announcer shake-up saw Alicia Taylor come to SmackDown, while Rome returned to NXT. The 42-year-old returned to the third brand this past Tuesday for the first time since 2018.

There had been some social media fan chatter about how Rome was being demoted by losing his SmackDown spot. However, a report from Fightful Select notes that, officially, Rome's return to NXT is not viewed as a demotion.

Rome was rumored to return to NXT on May 7, and while he was backstage for part of the show, this was Taylor's final night. WWE sources reported then that Rome was "re-familiarizing himself" with the role, and he was enthusiastic about the future. With that said, this week's report notes that Rome is not completely happy with the change, but despite this, he remains enthusiastic.

Rome shared screenshots from his appearance on Tuesday's NXT and publicly expressed excitement over the return. He captioned the post with the brand's signature catchphrase - We Are NXT!

Mike Rome launches new project outside of WWE

Mike Rome has been with WWE since 2016 and just recently returned to the NXT brand as a ring announcer.

Rome, real name Austin Romero, worked several gigs before his pro wrestling career, such as touring the country with Nickelodeon as an emcee, a singer, and a cast member at Disney World and Universal Studios. He has now partnered with co-hosts Danny Ly Ziser, Raheem Jarbo, and Laney Feni, plus producer Alexis Cardoza, to launch the "In Case I Missed It" talk show.

The weekly 30-minute show will focus on TV, movies, streaming, pop culture, and geek culture, according to the press release.

The first episode of "In Case I Missed It" is set to premiere soon. The crew is promising celebrity guests, entertaining segments, and insightful discussions.
