Seth Rollins out 6-9 months with injury, WWE announces tournament to crown new champion

Out for 6-9 months

- We had reported about the spossible injury to Seth Rollins’ knee the other night, after he was shown to land awkwardly on his leg in a match against Kane, the first night of the UK tour, in Dublin Ireland.

The injury has been confirmed to be a ACL, MCL and medical meniscus tear, putting the champion on the shelf for about 6-9 months. Owing to his inability to defend the title at the upcoming Survivor Series PPV against Roman Reigns, Rollins has vacated the world title, which WWE announced, would be up for grabs in a tournament held at Survivor Series.

WWE issued the following statement on Rollins’ injury and the title:

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has torn his right ACL, MCL and medial meniscus, and will not be able to defend the title against Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. A tournament to determine a new champion will instead take place at the event.

It was Jonathan Coachman, who works at ESPN, who first broke the news of the injury and also announced the tournament to crown the champion.

Rollins, who has been the WWE world champion for over 300 days now, following his victory over Lesnar & Reigns at this year’s Wrestlemania 31, was expected to drop the strap to Roman Reigns at the Survivor Series PPV and go on to feud with mentor Triple H for Wrestlemania 32.

With his injury, all plans are in the process of being re-written as while he may make it in time for Wrestlemania 32, the company can’t be pushing it as he may be out for more than 6 months, meaning he misses out on being a part of Wrestlemania itself.

The plans for the tournament are being chalked out and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the plans are changed completely by the time RAW this Monday rolls around. Below are some tweets sent out from WWE current & former stars in support of Rollins:
