The new enigma - Daniel Bryan

A few years ago when a skinny lad entered the WWE development facilities, hardly anyone would have thought that this man would some day become the face of this business. But destiny had already written its course.

As a member of the Nexus, he stood out among the others, carved out a special place for himself. Trained by the legendary Shawn Michaels and WWE competitor William Regal, whom he has credited as being instrumental in the development of his career, he worked on his limited physical abilities to become one of greatest of this modern era. Acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of Ring of Honour, he made the company prominent during its inception.

But the American Dragon was destined to achieve greatness and he is already being compared to the legend Stone Cold Steve Austin. One of the guys who has worked enough but has never received attention of his commanding authorities, Bryan has a rebel in him, a rebel attitude much like CM Punk. But the YES man goes a step further than Punk in the way that his stance in WWE can be linked to the Rattlesnake himself.

Contrary to the common belief that he would never be able to connect with the fans, Bryan has successfully connected with the WWE Universe both as a heel and as fan-favourite with his YES and NO chants depending on his persona. He successfully held the Tag Team Championship along with Kane, one of the most unlikely alliances of all time, and has proved that he is not the weak link in the roster after Team Hell No was disbanded. His victory against John Cena at SummerSlam sealed his pursuit of greatness.

With the recent developments in WWE, he remains the only babyface in the business to challenge authority of the autocratic Triple H. The comparison with Stone Cold puts him among the frontline superstars of WWE, but only time will tell whether he can repeat the success of Austin-McMahon era.
