A heel turn is a storyline device that turns a fan-favorite WWE Superstar into a villain. When executed well, a heel turn can be a game-changer, creating new storylines and generating much buzz among fans. However, when a heel turn goes wrong, it can result in disappointment, confusion, and even backlash from the audience.
One of the most infamous examples of a heel turn gone wrong was Dean Ambrose turning on Seth Rollins in 2018. It happened on the same day that Roman Reigns announced he was battling leukemia.
With the correct booking, this could have been one of the best heel turns ever, but WWE completely botched the angle. Ambrose turned into a joke and was never taken seriously in the promotion.
It was so bad that he left the company for AEW. Similarly, there have been many instances where a heel turn went wrong.
