What role can the Shield play at Wrestlemania 29?

At Elimination Chamber this Sunday, The Shield placed themselves in the path of becoming the greatest factions of WWE by beating the team of John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus. Every moment of the match illustrated talent of epic proportions and these three are without doubt the best future that WWE can dream of. They showed a lot of dominance by beating Sheamus, Ryback and Chris Jericho on RAW this week. With so much momentum on their side, it is important WWE give this group the right matches to establish themselves as a credible stable in WWE.

The next big stop for this group is Wrestlemania. The first question that will arise is whether the Shield should have a say at the grandest stage this year? I would gladly approve of it. Everyone knows Wrestlemania is mostly for the top stars of WWE and only the best competitors take part in it. The Shield, by beating three top stars at Elimination Chamber, have proven to be equally impressive stars and hence, a spot for them at Wrestlemania shouldn’t be given any second thoughts. It looks uncertain as to whether the Shield will have a match at Wrestlemania but even without a match, this group can be of great relevance.

So, the next question that needs to be answered is what role the Shield would play at Wrestlemania this year? After disrupting matches and attacking top stars, it is now time the Shield got their hands onto the championship titles. As of now, the most relevant titles that the Shield can be given are the tag team titles. With the tag team division looking barren after a disastrous decision of splitting the Rhodes Scholars, it will make a lot of sense to make the Shield win the tag titles.

I would prefer Ambrose and Rollins to hold the title as a tag team, with Reigns providing them support outside the ring. Though this scenario looks highly unlikely, it will give this group a better say among the fans if they are given this title. Another problem that WWE will need to sought out if this is done, is bring up better tag team opponents for the Shield. With Team Hell No breaking up, I don’ t see a better tag team face that will be ready to challenge them. But this idea of giving Shield the title looks exciting.

Another thing the WWE can do is reveal a top wrestler as the Shield’s leader. For long we have waited for the revelation of the leader and by looking at recent events, it seems as though it is Brock Lesnar. Now, if Lesnar is indeed the leader of Shield, this group will play a huge role in his almost certain fight with Triple H at Wrestlemania. Shield can prove to be a huge hurdle for Triple H and at times, it makes me think that we will experience a huge upset at Wrestlemania due to the involvement of the Shield.

Last but not the least, WWE can try making the Intercontinental title a part of the Shield. Wade Barrett can become a new member of the group and together along with the tag team titles, the Shield can then create a dominant reign for justice as they are in possession of one-third of the titles in the company. It has been long since a heel stable has gotten hold of the title and now is the right time as WWE is struggling to find a good storyline for the existing roster. Ratings have been another problem for WWE now as it is hugely dependent on older stars like The Rock, Triple H and Undertaker for it. Hence, creating an interesting storyline can boost ratings.

With all that said, it is of much importance that the Shield are given a credible role to play at Wrestlemania so that their momentum propels them higher for the latter part of the year. It has been long since WWE has created a stable worth mentioning and it will be heartening to see the WWE not bury Shield the same way Nexus was buried a few years back.
