Why Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose can be 'The Rivalry' of WWE's Reality Era

Seth Rollins hitting Dean Ambrose could end up as the moment where the rivalry began

Let me begin by stating something that was clearly evident on Raw- Dean Ambrose’s promo on Monday night was stellar. It shows that he is better off being alone rather than teaming up with The Shield and that’s saying a lot given that The Shield were consistently one of and sometimes, the best part of WWE programming since November 2012. In the ring, Seth Rollins got the crowd all riled up with his aerial skills and Roman Reigns, reportedly being the obvious favorite in backstage, got that extra build up added to his moves to set him his trademark style just like John Cena has his five knuckle shuffle etc. Dean Ambrose in that respect made dramatic saves. That is why he got the most reactions for other than his maniac Clothesline. Now that The Shield is no longer the original version of itself, all three of them seem to be set for their solo flights.

When reports came out about Roman Reigns being lined up to face Triple H, many thought that Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will be going after the tag titles, essentially thinking that they’ll be a two man tag team for a while as Roman Reigns handles his business with the COO. The discussions around their eventual split which was pretty rife earlier this year and has been around since their spectacular debut, were at their lowest, negligible or even zilch around the past 2 weeks and that’s when the inevitable happened in a quite a shocking moment. It signaled towards a potentially great storyline and an already great heel turn. How Rollins thrives in that role is yet to be seen, but at Raw he looked ‘suited’ for that role.

Now here’s the thing where it gets exciting. If Triple H and Roman Reigns are set to face each other, then that sets a match between Ambrose and Rollins. Everything is indicating towards a possibility of that happening. Ambrose was on the receiving end of the maximum chair shots. And this scenario is quite perfect for all the three superstars of the Shield. That brings the spotlight to an already exciting storyline. Instead of just one match, we have two. Evolution and the two men Shield can compete in a tag match forever. It’s starting to wear out. Whereas a new member entering the Shield will only delay their advent into singles’ competition and anyway nothing will ever compare to the original.

And the one person that stands to benefit from this change is Ambrose. I hope the personals at Creative realizes his potential. He was the star on the mic last night. His fans, before he joined the WWE, must have been elated to see him reach closer to his former persona of Jon Moxley. Reigns’ promo was not even close to the atmosphere that Ambrose built around with his dramatic display of emotions. That is how a promo should be delivered. Not exactly like the way Ambrose did but in a way which seems natural to one’s gimmick rather than a mechanical recitation from a teleprompter. I know there is no teleprompter but still in the past many years, superstars just don’t know how to deliver their lines. Roman Reigns really seemed mechanical. He needs to develop his style just like he’s developed his looks.

While Triple H and Reigns’ match might take a higher spot on a particular card, it is the match between Ambrose and Rollins that will and should be more important because it had two very accomplished young stars who can lead an entire new generation in the WWE.

Hogan and Savage, Hart and HBK, Stone Cold and Rock, Cm Punk and John Cena were the defining feuds of different eras. Could Rollins and Ambrose be this era’s defining feud?

I sure hope so.
