WWE 205 Live Event Results: Lowell, Massachusetts (January 20, 2018)

205 Liv
Matt Hardy, Nia Jax and Hideo Itami were all on the show

Despite mixed reviews of weekly WWE Network show 205 Live, the long-term plan was always for the cruiserweights to become their own touring brand, much like NXT.

WWE confirmed in December 2017 that the stars of the Tuesday night show would have their own three-date tour in 2018, beginning in Kingston, Rhode Island on 19 January, followed by events in Lowell, Massachusetts on 20 January and Poughkeepsie, New York on 21 January.

With the first show in Kingston being cancelled, fans got to see the cruiserweight-only show (plus Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt) for the first time in Lowell on Saturday night.

In this article, we run through the results and take a look at what people at the event made of it all.

#1 Hideo Itami vs. Jack Gallagher

Hideo Itami is slowly but surely making an impression on 205 Live and he was one of the star attractions that WWE advertised for the first-ever cruiserweight tour.

With an impressive 1,200 people in attendance, the show began with the Japanese sensation defeating Jack Gallagher with his new Cutter finisher, with the GTS seemingly banned in recent weeks following the injury it caused to The Brian Kendrick.

Result: Hideo Itami def. Jack Gallagher

#2 Gran Metalik & Kalisto vs. TJP & Drew Gulak

The masked duo of Gran Metalik and Kalisto have teamed up on a couple of occasions on 205 Live in recent weeks, and they were paired together again to take on TJP and Drew Gulak in Lowell on Saturday.

It was former Cruiserweight champion Kalisto who picked up the win for his team, pinning TJP, and he claimed in a promo afterwards that “The King of the Ropes” and “The King of Flight” are just getting started.

#3 Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt

When NXT first began as a touring brand, the match card was often boosted by more well-known WWE Superstars, and 205 Live followed the same format by having “Woken” Matt Hardy face Bray Wyatt in Lowell.

The former Raw Tag Team champion vowed to “DELETE” Bray in a pre-match promo, in which he also sang, and he picked up the victory against his rival thanks to a Twist of Fate.

Result: Matt Hardy def. Bray Wyatt

#4 Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari

Akira Tozawa has picked up multiple victories over Ariya Daivari on WWE television over the last six months, and their rivalry continued on the opening night of 205 Live’s first-ever live events.

The former Cruiserweight champion recorded another win over his rival with a trademark Diving Senton from the top rope.

Result: Akira Tozawa def. Ariya Daivari

#5 Mustafa Ali vs. Tony Nese

Not only did the 205 Live event draw a much bigger crowd than many expected but, judging from the reaction on social media, every match on the card delivered.

The penultimate match, Mustafa Ali vs. Tony Nese, ended with a victory for Nese on a November 2017 episode of 205 Live. However, on this occasion, it was Ali who picked up the win with a Reverse 450 Splash.

Result: Mustafa Ali def. Tony Nese

#6 Enzo Amore vs. Cedric Alexander (Nia Jax special referee)

Not many people would have expected Enzo Amore to ever main-event a WWE live event in a singles match, but that’s exactly what the Lowell crowd was treated to on Saturday night.

“The Realest Guy In The Room” received a lot of boos and a surprising number of cheers before his Cruiserweight Championship match against Cedric Alexander, with Nia Jax officiating as special guest referee.

As has been the way recently on WWE television, Nia ended up siding with Enzo and she hit a Samoan Drop on Cedric to help the Cruiserweight champ retain.

Result: Enzo Amore def. Cedric Alexander
