WWE Draft 2017/Superstar Shake-Up Rumors: Reason why AJ Styles didn't move to Raw

AJ Styles looked certain to move to Raw

What’s the story?

AJ Styles was practically guaranteed to move to Raw during the Superstar Shake-up. However, that did not happen. On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shed some light on this turn of events.

In case you didn’t know...

The superstar shake-up is about select superstars from both brands changing sides. On Raw, six men, 2 women and 1 tag team switched over to the red brand.

AJ Styles, leading to the shake-up, was heavily rumoured to move over to Raw, but much to the surprise of fans, it did not happen.

The heart of the matter

Meltzer said that AJ didn’t move over to Raw because Bray Wyatt took his place. The Eater of Worlds made his appearance on Raw after Finn Balor’s match against Jinder Mahal. He confronted The Demon and warned him before announcing that he would be facing Randy Orton in a House Of Horrors match at Payback.

Meltzer speculated that a feud between Randy Orton and AJ Styles, for the WWE Championship, could be on the cards, following Payback.

What’s next?

AJ Styles will continue to shine on SmackDown Live, and he will hopefully rake up more impressive accomplishments.

Author’s take

Neither AJ Styles nor Bray Wyatt should be on Raw. They both feel like SmackDown Live superstars and have far bigger opportunities to become huge stars on the blue brand. However, we cannot always get what we wish for, and the good news is that AJ Styles will still be on SmackDown Live, the land of opportunity.

Styles has always felt like a big deal and is arguably the biggest full-time star on the SmackDown Live roster. Now that Shinsuke Nakamura has come up, it will make things even more interesting, with the possibility of an AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura dream rematch on the WWE stage.
