Well, this was certainly a surprise
Well, this was certainly a surprise

WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 certainly lived up to expectations with the pay per view providing some truly memorable moments throughout the night. Despite some questionable results, the show was a really good one overall and there can be few complaints from the WWE Universe.

We're going to take a look at and rate all the matches on the card to see just how good of a pay per view it was. So, without any further ado, here are our ratings for all the matches at WWE Hell in a Cell 2017:

#1) The Hype Bros vs Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable

It was great to see the return of Shelton Benjamin to PPV action
It was great to see the return of Shelton Benjamin to PPV action

The kickoff show had a pretty standard tag team match which saw Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable pick up an expected victory over the Hype Bros. Nothing spectacular here.

Rating - 5/10

#2) The New Day (C) vs The Usos (for the SmackDown Live Tag-Team Championships)

The main card started off with the first of two Hell in a Cell matches and what a match it was! The New Day and The Usos provided a truly special tornado tag team encounter which went back and forth with plenty of action.

Jimmy and Jey ultimately prevailed to become the new Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions and the two teams proved that they're the very best the WWE has to offer.

Rating - 9/10

#3) Randy Orton vs Rusev

Rusev lost yet again
Rusev lost yet again

Randy Orton beat Rusev in what was one of the weakest matches at WWE Hell in a Cell 2017. It was a pretty standard singles match with Orton picking up the expected victory after hitting his patented RKO.

Rating - 5/10

#4) AJ Styles (C) vs Baron Corbin vs Tye Dillinger (for the WWE US Championship

A really good Triple Threat match
A really good Triple Threat match

After a late change, the WWE United States Championship match saw Tye Dillinger added to the mix, making the encounter a Triple Threat match. This match was booked really well, in my opinion.

All three men got in some really good offence and the ending made perfect sense. It's good to see Corbin get a break and pick up a huge win to become the new WWE US Champion while AJ was protected.

Rating - 8/10

#5) Natalya (C) vs Charlotte (for the SmackDown Women’s Championship)

While this was a really solid wrestling match, the ending left much to be desired. I've long been of the opinion that the WWE Smackdown Live women's Championship needs to be around the waist of Charlotte Flair and the WWE wasted a good opportunity here.

Overall, though, it was the perfect set up to continue the feud.

Rating - 7/10

#6) Jinder Mahal (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura (for the WWE championship)

And, now we come to one of the worst matches on the night - the WWE Championship match between Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura. The two men have absolutely no in-ring chemistry and it showed with Jinder unable to keep up with Nakamura.

And then, The King of Strong Style's floundering Smackdown Live career continued with yet another shoddy loss as The Modern Day Maharaja's reign continued.

Rating - 4/10

#7) Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler

Now for the worst match of the night. Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler was an absolute snooze fest. The match was worked at an incredibly dull pace with Roode taking a lot of the punishment. While things could still be salvaged with a strong finish, the WWE decide to convolute things further at the end.

A weird roll-up sequence saw The Glorious One steal the win but was immediately attacked from behind by The Showoff. Not a great pay per view debut for the would-be future star of Smackdown Live.

Rating - 3/10

#8) Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens

Match of the night

Match of the night

Finally, the main event and the match of the night. With in-ring work just as good as the first Hell in a Cell match of the evening, the startling conclusion is what made the Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens match such a treat.

That Sami Zayn heel turn was a thing of absolute beauty and this was the perfect way to end what was a really really good show.
