WWE News: Bray Wyatt talks about the origin of his character

What’s the story?

Bray Wyatt has revealed details about the origin of his character in the new NXT: The Future is Now book. The former WWE champion credited late-great Dusty Rhodes for helping him develop the character of Bray Wyatt from the ground up.

In case you didn’t know...

The 29-year old, whose real name is Windham Lawrence Rotunda, first debuted in WWE back in 2010 as Husky Harris but would eventually be rebranded as Bray Wyatt.

The Eater of Worlds ascended to main-event status after repackaging himself and is now widely considered as one of the company’s brightest young stars.

The heart of the matter

The man formerly known as Husky Harris revealed the character of Bray Wyatt to be a creation of his own lunacy, whilst adding that his childhood fandom of Rage Against The Machine did, in fact, lead to him losing his mind on a very real level. He added that he became obsessed by his character.

Here are a few excerpts from his statements regarding the same:

“I was going to jury duty in my hometown, and Dusty (Rhodes) made me go to jury duty as Bray. Dusty told me, ‘This is the perfect exercise. Become Bray.’”

“I literally went to jury duty as Bray Wyatt. I was so immersed in the character that I didn’t break once. Obviously, I didn’t get picked for jury duty, but I had the white pants, Hawaiian shirt, the whole nine yards…There were no fragments of Husky Harris. Husky Harris was dead, and he was to stay dead. I was Bray Wyatt. We were one.”

He reiterated his dedication towards his on-screen character, asserting that the moment his first gimmick Husky Harris failed, he put in the hours day-in-and-day-out to turn himself into Bray Wyatt.

What’s next?

Bray Wyatt will participate in a Fatal 5-Way match at the upcoming RAW brand-exclusive Extreme Rules PPV on June 4^th, in order to determine the number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s WWE Universal championship.

Author’s Take

Wyatt’s discipline and love for his art is truly commendable and I, for one, would love to see WWE book him well from this point moving forward.

Granted that the promotion does push him as one of its marquee stars, but the man deserves more, considering his excellent ring-craft and epic mic skills.
