What’s the story?

After Kane was written off of TV last week when Braun Strowman toppled part of the stage on him, it would appear that the injury Kane had been suffering from may be more serious than initially feared.

Dave Meltzer had mentioned in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Big Red Machine would be taking some time off of TV to recover from an injury - and it would appear that the former Money In The Bank winner has been pulled from upcoming WWE Live events.

In case you didn’t know…

While Kane had been working a lighter schedule over the past few years, WWE had ramped up his TV time for a rivalry with Braun Strowman that has seen the two destroy each other on an almost weekly basis since TLC.

It had been rumoured that this may be Kane's last run in WWE, hence the bigger storyline and title shot at Royal Rumble, as the man behind the mask, Glenn Jacobs, is running for the role of Mayor of Knox County.

The heart of the matter

After being hospitalised last week, we were told that Kane was struggling to breathe when he was taken to a medical facility, but we later found out that The Big Red Machine had escaped and no-one knew where he is.

This pretty much plays perfectly into Jacobs' real-life "injury" as it means he could return tonight, he could return in a month, or he could indeed never return - and any of those scenarios would be easily believable.

While it's not clear if Jacobs is indeed injured or taking time off to campaign, WWE has removed the two-time Intercontinental Champion from all Live events for the entire month, starting from this upcoming weekend.

What’s next?

While Kane has been removed from a month's worth of house shows, he is still featured on the "Event" listing for tonight's RAW on WWE.com. Will he appear? We'll need to wait to find out. While Kane isn't advertised for any February events, he is advertised for television and live events in March.

It was recently announced that WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar would defend his title against Kane at a WWE Live event on 3 March, Saturday at the United Center in Chicago. As of now, this match is still scheduled to take place.

Author’s take

While Kane seems immortal, the truth is that Glenn Jacobs is 50 years old and it's been reported that age is catching up with him. Kane has always reportedly struggled with back problems derived from years of doing his patented one-armed Chokeslam and hasn't quite seemed himself when competing in-ring since returning to actual matches.

WWE had protected Kane somewhat on SmackDown Live when he would simply come out, deliver a Chokeslam and disappear again, but it has to be said that he does always give it his all and many, many wrestlers have said he is the ultimate pro and will do anything for WWE. If Kane is indeed injured, we wish him a speedy recovery!
