What’s the story?

On a recent edition of The Ross Report, WWE Superstar Kane spoke to veteran commentator Jim Ross on a myriad of topics.

"The Devil’s Favorite Demon" revealed his list of top three professional wrestlers -- Hulk Hogan, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and The Rock. He also said that the highlight of his career was when he defeated Austin for the WWF Championship in a First Blood Match at King of the Ring in 1998. He said that losing the title the next night on RAW was even more exciting owing to the sheer euphoric atmosphere at the RAW tapings that night.

Additionally, Kane said that Stone Cold was the most important component and integral part of the Attitude Era, emphasising that without Austin, the WWE’s most popular era wouldn’t have been as great as it was.

In case you didn’t know…

Steve Austin and Kane and a few other notable WWE Superstars played an important role in several storylines during the Attitude Era that eventually helped the WWE overcome rival promotion WCW.

Several professional wrestling experts credit Austin and The Rock as being the two biggest stars of the WWE, who saved the company from losing the Monday Night ratings war to WCW.

The heart of the matter

Speaking about the three biggest stars of all time and his career highlight, Kane said, “To me it's Austin, (Hulk) Hogan, and The Rock. And he was taking off and I was right there. The thing about Austin was you didn't have to do anything because Steve was so over—he was so popular it didn't matter.

“Everyone was just waiting for The Stunner, and then for Steve to jump up on the ring post and turnbuckle, and drink some beer, and that was it. It made it so easy that it was just tremendous."

"The Big Red Machine" compared Austin to Dusty Rhodes, pointing out that "The Texas Rattlesnake" was just a common man living out his dreams in the WWE and taking the company to new heights.

What’s next?

Kane is presently busy with his political obligations and is looking to win the mayoral seat from Knoxville, Tennessee. His WWE future remains uncertain.

Author’s take

Kane and Austin were, without a doubt, key players during the Monday Night Wars.

I’ve got to agree with the 7-footer here -- the Attitude Era surely wouldn’t have been the same without the double birds, beer and Austin 3:16.
