What's the story?

There have been rumours abound about Nikki Bella's future with the WWE with many of them suggesting that she is going to take over from Daniel Bryan as the General Manager of SmackDown LIVE. Now, the recent episode of Total Divas has revealed that the idea came from Bella herself.

In case you didn't know...

Nikki Bella is eyeing up an in-ring return early next year, with both herself and her sister, Brie Bella, training fo return to the WWE together. However, there are concerns over Nikki's health following a severe neck injury that almost ended her career.

The heart of the matter...

On the first episode of Total Divas, it was revealed that the rumours surrounding Nikki Bella as SmackDown LIVE General Manager were, in fact, not rumours, but fact. Nikki went to visit Brie, Daniel Bryan and their baby, Birdie. She proposed taking Bryan's job so that he could spend more time with his family.

“Well, if you don’t want to go back maybe we can pitch that I can just take your spot for a bit, I would be down to pitch it, or I could just be an assistant. Maybe I can start at Money in the Bank because I can’t be in a ladder match”

"I’m just really missing being in the woman’s divison and being in the company for so long I’ve realised there’s so much we can do with the WWE and I would just absolutely love to be the GM, I can help Brie and Bryan and at the same time I can cause so much chaos."

What's next?

It is expected that Nikki's pursuit of the SmackDown LIVE GM role will be a long-running arc in the season, possibly leading to it actually happening on WWE television.

Author's take

Now that it seems the idea of Nikki Bella being SmackDown GM is a legitimate one, I must say I'm warming to the idea. Although I will certainly miss seeing Daniel Bryan on WWE television, let's hope this leads to his in-ring return, and not his departure from the company.
