Another one bites the dust!

What's the story?

Mark Henry shed some light on his future with the WWE on a recent edition of The Sam Roberts Podcast. The 46-year-old Superstar revealed that he has retired from active in-ring action.

However, he will continue to work with the WWE in some backstage capacity.

In case you didn't know....

After an envious power-lifting career, Henry transitioned into the pro wrestling world and joined WWE back in 1996 at the age of 24.

However, The World's Strongest Man has underwhelmingly won just three titles over the course of his 21-year career. He has one reign each with the ECW, World Heavyweight, and European titles.

They say titles don't always paint a fair picture of a wrestler's career, and that holds true in Henry's case. From his memorable gimmicks and the infamous retirement angle that led to a World Heavyweight Championship run, Henry has had a big impact.

The heart of the matter

Henry's last appearance was at the Royal Rumble 2017 where he was eliminated by Braun Strowman. The Royal Rumble match may have been his final bout, however, Henry did mention the desire to return for an official retirement match.

As for now, Henry will continue as a talent scout and other various roles backstage. Ironically, Henry was responsible for Strowman and many other promising superstars signing up with the WWE

What's next?

While a retirement match seems likely, we would love to see him take up an on-screen manager's role in the near future.

Author's take

At 46 years old, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has finally given up the fight against father time and we wish him nothing but the very best for all his future endeavors in the WWE and beyond.

Knowing Henry, I won't be surprised if he reveals he was bluffing and returns to attack John Cena! He may still have a lot left in his humongous gas tank!
