WWE News: Reason why Brock Lesnar is not competing at Clash Of Champions revealed

At this year’s SummerSlam pay per view, Brock Lesnar competed against Randy Orton in what was marketed as their first match since they have both been on the main roster. Both superstars debuted in 2002, but interestingly, never managed to cross paths and feud with one another. After 14 years, the stage was set at the “Biggest Event of the Summer,” and the two combatants main-evented the show. In what was confusing to many, Lesnar gained the advantage for a great portion of the match, and ended the contest with sharp elbow strikes to the head of Orton, legitimately busting him open and leaving a pool of his blood on the ring. The ending was a bit lackluster to many and left spectators commenting about whether the conclusion would bring a rematch. Just a couple days later on SmackDown, WWE immediately placed Orton into a new feud with Bray Wyatt, and they will be competing against each other at the SmackDown-exclusive Backlash pay per view.

However, it looks as if the feud between Orton and Lesnar is not quite over. The two is scheduled to have their rematch, not at a Raw, SmackDown, or pay per view, but at a live event, just one day before the inaugural “Clash of the Champions” pay per view event. While this brings confusion to why their rematch is not being televised, apparently WWE has a reasonable explanation to why this decision was made.

According to the Wresling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingINC), Lesnar receives a lower amount of pay when he is competing on a house show, compared to a televised event. This is the reason why Lesnar will not be competing at the pay per views in September. Moreover, this pay scale is different mostly because the quality of matches are much better on television than a house show, having longer matches instead of squash matches. WWE offered him the September 24th to compete, and he agreed. He also felt that Orton was a big name to make this house show a box office attraction.

Whether WWE actually shows any footage from this event is the burning question. However, it would seem doubtful that they would, as it would harm the stock of Orton as a top draw for SmackDown is he loses yet again to Lesnar. The only plausible reason to incorporate the television audience to this live event match is if the feud will continue and another pay per view match will happen. But, with WWE teasing Lesnar vs. Shane McMahon, and currently engaged in a storyline between Orton and Wyatt, it may just be a one-off deal.
