WWE News: Roman Reigns on rejoining the Shield: "Maybe I'm a third wheel at this point"

When will the band get back together?

When will the band get back together?

What's the story?

The Shield are on the same brand in WWE and for some reason, they haven't been able to find each other backstage. But if they did, would Roman Reigns want to get the band back together?

The Background

Something pretty historic happened on November 18, 2012 at WWE's Survivor Series. Three relatively unknown pro wrestlers jumped the barricade and invaded WWE in a big way. Their first triple powerbomb would be followed by plenty more as The Shield continued their dominance and put the entire WWE roster on notice.

Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns were instant WWE Superstars and they used their time as members of The Shield to turn their popularity into main event careers. The best part about having these three guys on the roster at the same time is fans get to watch history unfold in front of them every time they step in the ring.

It's remarkable how much has happened since Seth Rollins turned on his fellow Hounds Of Justice when he joined the Authority on June 2, 2014. The Shield weren't even together for two full years and they created an incredible impression rivaled by factions who were together much longer.

The heart of the matter

With all three members of The Shield on the same roster, many people were wondering whether they'd see a full Shield reunion on Raw. What fans got instead was Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins joining forces to pull down the Raw Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam.

Although it was a memorable moment when Seth and Dean finally executed that first two-man fist bump, they're still missing Roman Reigns. The Big Dog recently spoke to ESPN where he opened up about whether or not he would consider rejoining his former brothers.

"Over the next few weeks, we'll be able to see it play out," he said. "But the main thing right now is I've been in the title picture for the Raw brand, so I can firmly say neither of those guys would leave [that opportunity] to rejoin The Shield [and] rekindle that flame."

In the end, Roman might feel a bit out of place at this point and he's got his own thing going on. After all, the three members of The Shield seem to have some distance between them when it comes to the story line. WWE has done a pretty good job keeping Seth, Dean, and Roman busy doing their own thing even though they share the same brand.

Roman hinted in the next few weeks we could be seeing some exciting things for him that might keep him occupied for now. Besides as Raw Tag Team Champions, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose seem to be doing just fine without Roman Reigns for now.

"Maybe I'm a third wheel at this point," he said. "It just really depends. I feel like the next few weeks are really going to play out some important things for me. Obviously, I need to transition coming out of this big feud between the four monsters."

Author’s take

If these three ever find themselves back in the ring together again it would be a pop to remember and that's still not out of the cards. But for now, it looks like Roman Reigns is going to be busy with John Cena.

What's next?

As time goes on it might only be a matter of time before WWE Creative finally bites the bullet and puts Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns back together for some kind of an angle.

But it might not become a reality until a big match situation comes into play or WWE simply paints themselves into a corner.
