Shawn Michaels to appear in movie

Over a year ago, WWE studios made a rather unusual move. The company acquired the rights for a movie which didn't really come under the tags of horror, gore, combat etc but 'inspirational'. It acquired worldwide rights to the faith-based comedy 'The Resurrection Of Gavin Stone” from Harvest Bible Chapel's Vertical Church Films.

The film had wrapped up the production in 2015 and stars Brett Delton(ABC's Agents Of SHIELD), Anjela Johnson-Reyes(Mom's Night Out), D.B Sweeney(Touch, Two & a Half Men) and the retired WWE superstar Shawn Michaels.

And now, after almost a year we get to see the first peek into the movie with this trailer

Vertical Church Films founder Dallas Jenkins is the director of the movie and the movie script is written by Andrea Nasfell.

When the announcement of the film was first made public, WWE Studios president Michael Luisi spoke a bit about the movie:

“It is a privilege to be working with the Harvest Bible Chapel and Vertical Church Films, as they share our understanding of the importance of a strong foundation for storytelling. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone’ is a heartwarming tale of faith and redemption that will allow us to continue growing our audience as we expand into new genres.”

The movie tells a story about Gavin Stone(Brett Dalton), a former child star turned washed-up and troubled actor. After receiving a 200-hour community service sentence, Stone pretends to be a Christian so he can play Jesus in a mega-church Easter production to fulfill his hours of service but then discovers that his most important role is far away from Hollywood.

Shawn Michaels plays Doug, a former biker who has found Jesus and is now a mechanic under the samaritan program called Cars For Single Moms. Brett Dalton, who plays the title character pretends to be a devout Christian but only wants to woo the pastor's daughter.

The plot sounds quite hilarious and with this WWE Studios might just carve a name for itself in the faith-based movie market.

WWE Studios was formed in 2002(then known as WWE Films) was ‘a natural extension of the entertainment business’ that they already featured in the weekly Raw & SmackDown television programs.

The most successful movie which bears the tag of WWE Studios is The Call’ starring Halley Berry and Abigail Breslin. Since 2014, WWE Studios has really taken off by signing distribution deals with the leaders of the film market like Warner Bros, Lionsgate Entertainment. Dean Ambrose, Big Show, Stone Cold and now Shawn Michaels, almost all main card pro wrestlers have starred in successful films under the WWE Studios banner.
