WWE Raw 5th September 2016: 6 things you may have missed

Raw kicked off with Kevin Owens’ celebration

The first Raw from the Kevin Owens era came to us from Kansas City. The main talking point of this show was Kevin Owens cementing his reign as Universal Champion. Along with this, we also saw the beginnings of Seth Rollins’ babyface turn along with an important information from WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks. However, one thing that didn’t happen was Triple H returning to explain why he turned on Seth Rollins last week.

The overall episode didn’t live up to the hype we had going in, but there were enough moments to rescue the show and in the end, it was a pretty good episode. Apart from all the major talking points, here are 6 things you may have missed.

6: Nia Jax begins her first feud?

Nia Jax had easily disposed of Ann Esposito earlier on in the evening

We saw a backstage segment with Alicia Fox leaving Sasha Banks’ dressing room when she was confronted by Nia Jax who enquired about the status of her “Rachety Ann” friend, Sasha Banks. Jax threatened Alicia that this wasn’t Total Divas and she would get squashed which sent Foxy into a rage.

Alicia Fox went crazy and screamed right into Nia Jax’s face before throwing stuff at her from a nearby table, hitting her on the face with what looked like a small box. Nia wasn’t best pleased by this and sent Alicia flying across the table. This is the beginning of Nia Jax’s first proper feud on the main roster against a WWE Superstar, instead of a jobber.

Also noteworthy, Braun Strowman squared off against his first non-jobber opponent since getting drafter to Raw when he faced Sin Cara.

5: Enzo and Cass’ promo

Enzo and Cass re-enacted a childbirth during their promo and it was amazing

Enzo and Cass are the undeniable kings of the promo in WWE right now. They have well and truly overtaken The New Days as the smoothest talkers on the mic. If you missed their promo before their match against the Shining Stars on Raw, go watch it now. It was gold.

I’d never thought that Enzo and Cass re-enacting childbirth could be so entertaining – and one of the best things I’ve ever seen promo-wise. The only words they spoke during the ‘childbirth’ part of their promo was “how you doin” and they somehow made it work. Amazing.

4: A new look for Bo Dallas and a major change in attitude

Bo Dallas showed us his vicous side

Bo Dallas was in the news last week after being ejected off a flight to Mexico for public intoxication. Rumours persisted since then that Bo would be kept off live events as a form of punishment, so we were all a little surprised when he showed up on Monday Night Raw. I’m one of the few people who enjoyed Bo’s run with the doomed Social Outcasts but I was glad to see Bo back in singles action with a modified version of his BO-live gimmick.

What was even more surprising than having Bo back? Bo actually winning a singles match. Bo faced an unnamed jobber and completely decimated him. He took out him opponent within a minute with some ferocious knee followed by a devastating looking new finisher that’s a modified version of Cody Rhodes’ Queen’s Crossbow.

This match went well for Bo and if he’s lucky, he can become Raw’s version of Heath Slater.

3: Charlotte and Dana implode?

Charlotte ended up losing her match against Bayley and she blamed Dana for the loss

Something most viewers may have missed on Raw may be the segment between Charlotte and Dana Brooke on the pre-show. Charlotte told Dana that she wasn’t good enough to be her protégé, something that had been proved by Dana getting pinned by Bayley two weeks in a row. Charlotte handed Dana protégé a clapboard to take notes during her match with Bayley, so that she could pick up some tips.

We also saw Charlotte use Dana’s trademark head-pat on her, which will be familiar to longtime fans of NXT. Dana and Charlotte’s relationship has been rocky for the last few weeks with Dana’s repeated failures. This was highlighted last week when Charlotte was on commentary during Dana’s match and she said that even she couldn’t help Dana. Truest statement ever.

Charlotte faced Bayley later in the evening. In the closing stages of the match Dana tried to help Charlotte win but the whole thing backfired. Bayley kicked out of a roll-up pin which caused Charlotte to fly into Dana who was climbing onto the apron. Charlotte was distracted momentarily and Bayley took advantage for the win.

Backstage, Charlotte took her anger out on Dana who repeatedly apologized. However, Charlotte would have none of it and she slapped Dana and left. Is this the end of Dana’s run as Charlotte’s backup?

2: The beginning of the Foley and Stephanie feud

Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are still on the same page for now, but the cracks have begun to form

The beginnings of the eventual feud between Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley were sown on this week’s episode of Raw. The show began with Stephanie on the phone calling for no expenses to be spared for Kevin Owens’ championship celebration when she got interrupted by Mick Foley, who looked livid. Foley was not happy with Triple H interrupting last week and making him look like a fool and he made that clear to Stephanie.

Steph and Mick clashed later on after Owens’ championship celebration when Stephanie wanted to ban Rollins indefinitely. Foley, however, intervened and said that a talent as precocious as Rollins could not be wasted on the shelf and as the GM, he set up a match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins at Clash of Champions.

1: Sasha’s has some bad news

Sasha Banks cut an emotional promo on Raw

Going into tonight’s episode of Raw, Sasha Banks tweeted out that she had a bad news and would be appearing on the program later In the night.

Sasha made her way out near the end of Raw and cut a passionate promo that had worked all of us. Sasha started out by saying that every journey comes to and end which immediately made it seem like she was announcing something akin to a lengthy absence. Sasha then ran down how the women’s revolution had changed WWE forever, and things like the Bra and Panties matches were a thing of the past. She said that thanks to the women of today, women were now known as WWE Superstars instead of Divas.

As Sasha started to tear up during her promo, we all thought the inevitable announcement of her having to take a long period of was coming – especially when she mentioned that to her being in the ring was everything that she’d ever dreamt about.

Sasha got interrupted by Dana however who was looking to beat up Sasha to prove her worth to Charlotte. Dana, however, proved to be as incompetent as ever as Sasha made her tap out in a matter of seconds. Sasha then announced that the bad news that she’d had was for Charlotte. Sasha announced that she was back to win her title and warned Charlotte to watch out.

WWE worked us all with this promo. Half of us thought Sasha might be retiring when she teared up in the middle of her promo. This was excellently done.
