Remembering Eddie Guerrero: 10 greatest moments of his career

4 – The story with Rey Mysterio’s son

The ladder match between the two at SummerSlam

Eddie Guerrero’s final heel run was mainly associated with this story with Rey Mysterio. Even though this technically wasn’t one moment, it was a gritty and enticing story.

After several mishaps in their tag team matches, Guerrero eventually snapped and attacked Mysterio. Soon, after more attacks, Guerrero revealed that he had a secret about Mysterio that he would reveal, and a match was made between the two at The Great American Bash 2005, and if Guerrero won he would reveal the secret. He lost, but still revealed the secret, and he claimed that he was the real father of Mysterio’s son Dominic. It was claimed that during a dark time in Mysterio’s marriage, his wife cheated with Eddie and conceived Dominic, and Eddie agreed to allow Rey to claim custody of him.

This feud carried on to SummerSlam where Guerrero lost a ladder match over Dominic’s custody to Mysterio. This was a feud that really had everyone gripped, and the pay-off which saw the good guy win was another feel-good moment.

3 – His final match in ECW

Guerrero and Malenko

ECW was known for its insanity, but it was also great for its cruiserweights, prominently Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero. In both men’s last match for the promotion before jumping to WCW, on August 25th, 1995, they produced a match which was even called a five-star classic by WWE themselves.

The match was a two-out-of-three-falls match, and in the first twenty minutes, one fall each man was traded, and the match was so equalised that it was called a draw. This might not be a moment itself, but it was a match that sent vibes through the world of professional wrestling, and truly told everyone that something special was on its way to WCW.
