WWE SmackDown 15/2/2013 recap

smack

Big Show starts the show and cuts a promo. Chris Jericho interrupts him and starts talking about how both of them could end up facing each other at Wrestlemania. This interests the ‘managing manager of general managers’ or the managing supervisor of SmackDown Booker T who says Jericho will face Big Show tonight.

Mark Henry vs Randy Orton

Next we have a match between Mark Henry and Randy Orton. Great way to start the show. Orton carried Henry’s size extremely well. This so called revenge match for Orton did not go well as he was fairly dominated by Henry inside the ring. After several futile attempts to land the RKO, a frustrated Orton hits Henry with the chair to be disqualified. Henry, despite the chair shots, lands the World’s Strongest Slam on Orton to leave the ring.

I sense a feud developing between these two. Hopefully they will follow this up inside the chamber and I guess at some point inside the chamber Orton will cost Henry the match to set up a match between them at Wrestlemania.

Winner: Mark Henry via Disqualification.

Backstage, Henry tells Matt Striker that people should try calling the National Guard or the Army to try stopping him.

Tamina vs Layla

Tamina connects the Superfly Splash to pick up the victory over Layla.

The Rock is out to talk to Punk about the stolen title. The Rock says Punk is not the champion just because he stole the title from him. Punk is going to trade the title for an ass kicking this Sunday. Rock says Punk is a spoiled little boy who is going to suffer for touching the belt.

Punk appears on the Titantron and calls Rock a hypocrite because Rock is crying in the ring about things not happening his way. Punk says he wants the Rock to get mad because an angry Rock will beat himself up and make it easier for Punk to win. Rock cuts Punk to tell him he speaks big game. He spoke about winning in the Royal Rumble but in the end, he got beat. Rock says Punk and Heyman know that the Rock will be victorious this Sunday and will head to Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion.

Excellent promo from both these wrestlers and it was a little refreshing to see Punk and Heyman in the Titantron. The Rock’s stern words in the end does indicate the possibility of The Rock leaving this Sunday as the WWE Champion. Even though I will be disappointed with the result, I guess this is the best possible result that WWE can bring out if they want to start building up for Rock vs Cena II at Wrestlemania.

Brodus Clay & Tensai vs 3MB

A worthless squash match for the newest comic team of WWE. At least both these giants now have something to do in WWE. Speaking of the match, it wasn’t very interesting with both the sides trying to show how funny each one can be. Brodus hits the Funk It Splash to pin Slater for the victory.

The duo start celebrating when the Shield make a surprise entrance. The trio attack both men and triple power bombed Brodus. Ambrose then gets the mic and tells Cena, Ryback and Sheamus will suffer the same fate and learn what consequences are.

I don’t understand why the Shield attacked this hopeless pair. Is the WWE planning to pitch the Shield against these two after their loss to Team SuperCena this Sunday? Let’s hope not.

Winner: Brodus Clay & Tensai

Cody Rhodes vs The Miz

An extremely short match with a few moves from both the wrestlers. Cody Rhodes goes for the disaster kick only to find it countered into the Figure Four lock. Rhodes taps out to give The Miz a victory.

I like both these wrestlers especially Cody. However, Rhodes’ character has taken a path downstream and now is finding its way down the abyss. Rhodes looked like gaining a character along with Sandow but after their break both these wrestlers seemed to have lost their momentum and this is the main reason why WWE is planning to bring them back together this Sunday.

Winner: The Miz

Zack Ryder vs Jack Swagger (w/ Zeb Colter)

Ryder in another squash match where Swagger looked extremely impressive. After a few lusty blows to his kidneys and kne,e Swagger hits the gutwrench bomb and makes Ryder tap to the Patriot Act.

I am happy that Ryder suffered no internal bleeding in this match. Swagger, along with Colter, looked his aggressive self which is quite pleasing to see.

Winner: Jack Swagger

Backstage Matt Striker talks to Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio responds to Big Show’s promo earlier in the show and says that he beat Show twice and covered him in orange paint to make him look like a pumpkin. Alberto says the answer to Big Show’s comments is simple and he will win this Sunday. Ricardo alongside him repeats ‘si’ several times as Del Rio walks away.

Big Show vs Chris Jericho

Big-Show-defeated-Chris-Jericho

The match starts off with Big Show making use of Jericho’s small size. Jericho is completely dominated as Show throws him outside the ring and back inside. Despite Jericho’s attempts to slow him down, Big Show manages to gain control over the match. After a few futile kicks from Jericho, Big Show comes out with a surprise spear for a two count.

Jericho avoids a chokeslam and goes for a top rope double axe handle only to find himself caught in a mid air chokeslam. Jericho wisely rolls out of the ring, but Show throws him back. He counters Big Show’s middle rope elbow drop to connect a Lionsault for a two count and then tries the code breaker. Big Show counters and grabs him by the throat as Jericho hits Show with a swinging DDT. Jericho then tries the Walls of Jericho but Show kicks him out and then lands the WMD on Jericho to pick up the victory.

Winner: Big Show
