The week is drawing to its end, and all eyes are on WWE SmackDown. The Blue brand has arguably established itself as an "A-show" in wrestling. The biggest feuds are expected to see significant developments on the show tonight as we inch closer to SummerSlam 2021. From unexpected twists to jaw-dropping action, we are looking forward to an entertaining episode.

Let’s take a quick look at things that can transpire on WWE SmackDown tonight. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

#1 John Cena confronts Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown

Last week on WWE SmackDown, Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Finn Balor met inside the ring to sign their contracts for a title match at SummerSlam 2021. However, Baron Corbin attacked Balor out of nowhere right before he could ink the dotted line. Soon after that, John Cena rushed to the ring and attacked Corbin before turning his attention towards The Tribal Chief.

Cena then signed the contract to replace Balor, and the match was soon made official. Paul Heyman tried to convince Adam Pearce that the contract was meant for Balor, and Cena’s signature isn’t valid, but things didn’t change. Now, Roman Reigns has no option left but to cross paths with John Cena on WWE SmackDown.

The Universal Champion initially rejected Cena’s title challenge and said he is bored of seeing the 16-time champion still relying on his decade-old antics. John Cena believes that he doesn’t need to change if he is still entertaining. Both superstars share a long history, and this feud is about to dig up many graves on WWE SmackDown.

It is vital that Reigns does a convincing job while standing across from Cena inside the squared circle, especially during their promo wars. There’s been a lot of trash talk over the last few weeks, but it will only get better when they stand face to face. Most importantly, we have Paul Heyman eagerly waiting for his opportunity to engage in a battle of wits with John Cena on WWE SmackDown.

We could see a frustrated Reigns addressing Cena’s methods to secure a title opportunity. The latter wouldn’t let go of an opportunity to finally confront The Tribal Chief. This title feud could deliver several epic moments in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam 2021, and the creative team shouldn't wait too long to involve Roman Reigns and John Cena in intense segments.

#2 Finn Balor punishes former royalty on WWE SmackDown

Finn Balor was unfairly eliminated from the title picture on WWE SmackDown, and he wants his revenge. He recently discussed a possible triple-threat title match at SummerSlam 2021 against Roman Reigns and John Cena:

"Well, I’m not sure if the possibility of a Triple-Threat at SummerSlam is off the cards right now so, if we could somehow finagle that, that would be fantastic, but if not, obviously the one reason I’m in SmackDown is to become Universal Champion so you know, Roman Reigns is who I want," said Balor. "I’ve wrestled John before, I’ve wrestled Roman before but what I want is to [regain] the Universal Championship," said Finn Balor.

However, Balor might first engage in a feud with Baron Corbin on the Blue brand. Both superstars are set to face each other in a singles match tonight, and The Prince would want to make the former king pay for his actions.

An extended feud with Corbin will also allow Balor to gain momentum on WWE SmackDown before he officially challenges Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. It will be exciting to see what’s in store for him on the Blue brand.

#3 Edge responds to Seth Rollins’ attack on WWE SmackDown

WWE SmackDown Superstars Seth Rollins and Edge are currently drafting one of the best feuds on the road to SummerSlam. Their long history, coupled with their recent altercations, has brewed an intense rivalry between both superstars. Last week, we saw Rollins lay out a vicious attack on Edge and subject The Rated-R Superstar to brutal punishment.

The Architect could boast about his actions on WWE SmackDown. However, he will most likely encounter an angry Edge who has been on a whole other level of aggression lately. It is also essential to note that the handful of segments between the WWE legend and Rollins have already allowed the latter to bring back the infamous entertaining subtleties of his heel gimmick.

Both superstars are likely to face each other in a match at SummerSlam 2021, but there is one exciting possibility that awaits us before the pay-per-view. Considering the current booking directions on WWE SmackDown, we could see Edge team up with John Cena to take on Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a tag team match.

It doesn’t seem like a far-fetched prediction at this point, and we hope the creative team will make the most of this opportunity, especially when it took almost a decade to show itself.

#4 Sasha Banks gets another shot at WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Sasha Banks made a huge return on WWE SmackDown last week and was welcomed with a deafening pop. She first rushed to help Bianca Belair when the reigning women’s champion struggled to defend herself against Zelina Vega and Carmella. Banks saved Belair, and both superstars hugged each other, paying a subtle nod to their historic moment at WrestleMania 37.

Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair teamed up to take on Vega and Carmella later in the night. All four superstars delivered an entertaining match that ended with Banks forcing Carmella to submit.

Following their match, Belair and Banks celebrated together before the latter hit the champion with a Backstabber. She then raised the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship while the champion rolled in agony.

It is evident that The Boss will now get her title rematch against Belair, and both superstars might face each other at SummerSlam 2021. Although their previous title bout was epic, the build-up to their match on WWE SmackDown was lackluster. Hopefully, we will see Banks and Belair involved in a more brutal feud this time ahead of their championship match.

#5 Rey and Dominik Mysterio continue their feud with The Usos on WWE SmackDown

The Usos are set to put their WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships on the line at SummerSlam 2021 against Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik. Jey and Jimmy Uso have been excellent as heels and helped secure the gold for The Bloodline. They are prepared to retain their titles at all costs, but their challengers look equally determined.

The Usos are yet to pick up a clean victory over Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Last week, the latter ended up borrowing a page from the champions when he helped his father defeat Jimmy Uso on WWE SmackDown.

Similar to Jey Uso’s technique, Dominik pressed both his legs against Rey’s back to help reinforce the pinfall. Interestingly, The Usos used the same move to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Money in the Bank.

The two teams have been engaged in a well-narrated feud so far. They have also delivered engaging matches, and fans have high expectations from their upcoming title bout at SummerSlam 2021. Roman Reigns and The Usos could also team up to take on John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Dominik on the Blue brand in the weeks leading up to their respective championship matches later this month.
