Account Levels in Fortnite are very different from Seasonal Levels. Rather than representing the player's level in the current season, they showcase the total Levels earned across their lifetime in-game.

The best way to earn Account Levels quickly is to level up in-game. This can be done by completing daily and weekly challenges. Those tired of the BR mode can opt for Creative instead. Since there are a wide variety of game modes to try out, it'll take a long time before monotony sets in.

With all this in mind, why do players need to earn Account Levels in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1? Since the Battle Pass focuses only on Seasonal Levels, why has Epic Games suddenly made this dynamic shift?

Why do Account Levels in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 matter?

Traditionally, Account Levels rarely matter in Fortnite. However, in Chapter 4 Season 1, they have become intertwined with the Battle Pass and a certain set of cosmetic items that are part of the "Midseason Drops” tab. There are five additional styles that players can unlock under this tab.

According to veteran leaker iFireMonkey, one style will become available each week, and the only requirement to unlock it is to "earn 10 Account Levels." Furthermore, players have to proceed with these challenges in order. Until a new style is unlocked in-game, earning Account Levels will not count towards progression. Here's a summary of the same:

  • Account Level progress only counts when the challenge becomes available in-game
  • Players are required to go in order. They cannot unlock the style for Massai until the Sunlit Selene one is complete
  • Players are not required to wear the specific skin to gain progress to the style
  • Each challenge completed (earn 10 Account Levels) will reward players with 25,000XP

Players will undoubtedly complete the challenge of earning 10 Account Levels to unlock each style, but this is yet another form of gatekeeping by Epic Games. Rather than allowing players to reach level 200 early and call it quits for Chapter 4 Season 1, they now have to progress at a slower pace to unlock these cosmetics.

With weekly Fortnite challenges rotating every seven days, the prospect of being able to level up at the last minute has been cut short. This, in turn, forces players to play every week to gain Seasonal Levels and unlock all cosmetics in the Battle Pass. Thankfully, there is a silver lining for those who have reached high levels this season.

How do high-level players unlock all five cosmetic styles from Midseason Drops?

Despite this poor design choice by Epic Games, they had the foresight to level out the amount of XP required to level up past Seasonal Level 200. Those who have crossed level 200 will not be required to earn more than 80,000 XP per level.

Although it's disappointing that players have to go past level 200 to earn five bonus rewards, it shouldn't be too difficult. For those who want to avoid running into this issue, it's best to stop leveling up in-game until each style is unlocked. Capping off at Seasonal Level 145-155 and leveling up only 10 times after each style becomes available is probably for the best in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1.
