Wolves were added to Fortnite in Chapter 2 Season 6 and introduced as wildlife that players could eliminate to collect bones and meat for crafting/consumption. While they could also be tamed, there wasn't much to gain by doing so.

However, that has now changed in Chapter 3 Season 3, with the addition of riding mechanics. Players can now ride wildlife (boars and wolves) into battle while shooting their weapons on the go. This has led to a new tactical combat approach and has helped evolve 'hit-and-run' tactics to a large extent.

Due to the success of this mechanic/feature, Epic Games wants players to tame two wolves in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1. While the reason behind this remains obscure, what is certain is that players will be rewarded with 16,000 XP for completing the task.

With that said, here's where to find wolves and how to tame them in-game.

Despite the island being smaller than its predecessors, finding wolves is not as simple as one would imagine. Since they have random spawn locations, there's no fixed location to find them. The best way to find wolves is by keeping your eyes and ears open in-game.

In most cases, they can be found in grass and autumn/medieval biomes (try looking in forested/wooded areas). As they spawn in and around the ice/snow biome, given the land layout, it will not be easy to find them.

Furthermore, with the landscape being white, opponents using skins that offer effective camouflage may be able to launch an ambush and gain the upper hand during combat.

How to tame a wolf in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

There are two ways to tame wolves in Fortnite: The 'jump' method and by using bait. The jump method is the fastest way and only requires good timing. When a wolf charges at a player, they need to jump and land on top of the animal. This will trigger the 'taming' mechanic, and the wolf will immediately be tamed.

Keep in mind that while this method is fast, risks are involved. If a player messes up the timing of the jump, the wolf will inflict damage. Thankfully, Overshield will be present to absorb the initial hit and leave the player unscathed.

However, if Overshield is recharging, players will sustain damage to their shield/health depending on how many points they have in each.

The second method involves using bait (meat) to lure the wolf and keep it in one place. With the animal now focused on meat, players can easily time their jump and hop on the animal's back in a single attempt. That said, it's best to try and jump on top of the wolf as soon as it goes for the bait.

Tips on how to tame a wolf in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

Players can team up with friends to ease the task of finding wolves to make this challenge more palatable, as the challenge will become more streamlined with additional players.

Each player can find a wolf and tame it. Thereafter, they can swap wolves and tame the other to complete the challenge. This will save a lot of time as players can split up and look for wolves individually. While there is a risk of being shot at by opponents, it shouldn't be too difficult to overcome that hurdle.
