Scottie Scheffler finally breaks silence on arrest ahead of PGA Championship Round 2

Earlier this morning, Scottie Scheffler was detained by the police outside the entrance of the Valhalla Golf Club. He was handcuffed and taken by the police on the charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scottie Scheffler was eventually released by the police officers from the station, after which he proceeded to reach the golf course in order to prep for round 2 of the PGA Championship, which he is currently participating in. Scheffler proceeded to release a comment about the incident soon after. NUCLR Golf, a Golf Twitter account reported:

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today. Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”

Scheffler has currently returned to the Valhalla Golf Club, and is expected to tee off around 10:08 a.m. for round 2.

Why did Scottie Scheffler get arrested ahead of round 2 of the 2024 PGA Championship?

On Friday morning, Scottie Scheffler was making his way to the golf course, when he drove past police officers. There was a fatal pedestrian crash in the area that Scheffler was driving through, and the World No. 1 golfer had an 'alleged misunderstanding with the traffic flow'.

Scheffler was stopped and told to step out of the car by the police officer. The police officer was then seen yelling at Scheffler, after which he was taken into custody. Eventually, Scottie Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. ET Friday without bail.

Later, clarification was given that the miscommunication arose because the police officer who took Scheffler into custody was not a part of the regular event traffic detail. The round 2 of the PGA Championship was also delayed due to the pedestrian crash that occurred earlier in the day.
