Demetrious Johnson draws similarity between John Dodson and Rodtang’s insane power

One of the latest breakdown videos of reigning ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson on his YouTube channel, Mighty Gaming, was that of his mixed rules super-fight with ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

‘Mighty Mouse’ looked back on this groundbreaking and exciting match that took place in March 2022 at ONE X, where the two combat sports superstars battled it out in the scheduled four-round match that alternated between Muay Thai and MMA.

Despite winning the fight in the second round via a rear-naked choke that put ‘The Iron Man’ to sleep, Johnson discovered that Rodtang is only the second fighter he fought that has the power to hurt him, next to John Dodson.

Johnson said:

“When I got hit clean, it felt like John Dodson hit me. John Dodson and Rodtang are the only people who hit me like ‘Oh my god, that really hurt’.”

Before the 37-year-old arrived under the world’s largest martial arts organization in 2019, he was a dominant champion in the Western part of the world, specifically in the UFC, where Johnson racked up 11 straight successful title defenses.

Included in that streak were his two unanimous decision victories over John Dodson in January 2013 and in September 2015.

This statement by the Evolve MMA athlete is high praise for the Thai superstar, especially knowing that Johnson has fought some of the best fighters from both sides of the world like Joseph Benavidez, Henry Cejudo, Tim Elliot, Yuya Wakamatsu, Danny Kingad, and Adriano Moraes, among others.

Johnson’s next fight, though, is still being determined, as he the option to defend his title, compete in another special rules super-fight or even pit himself in a submission grappling match against reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci. Of course, only if he decides not to call it a day on his glittering career.
