Fabricio Andrade says styles make fights against Jonathan Haggerty: “He’s not a kickboxer”

Reigning and undisputed ONE bantamweight MMA world champion ‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade of Brazil is beaming with confidence heading into his next match, where he fully expects to become a two-sport ONE world champion.

Andrade is set to face ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty of the United Kingdom in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video, which broadcasts live from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, November 3rd.

The fight will be for the vacant ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title.

Speaking to FightWave in a recent interview, Andrade says he believes that in this particular matchup, styles make fights. And that Haggerty’s penchant for the Muay Thai rule set will work against him under kickboxing rules.

‘Wonder Boy’ said:

“He’s a very good opponent, you know, and the history that he’s not a kickboxer. He’s a Muay Thai champion. I was already planning to fight for the kickboxing title but I didn’t know I was going to fight him. So when everything happened and the belt became vacated and then they offered me Haggerty to fight for the title, I was like, that’s the best case scenario that could be.”

Andrade has long eyed winning the kickboxing world title in ONE Championship, and when he saw Haggerty’s name on the dotted line, it was a no-brainer to sign the contract. ‘Wonder Boy’ believes Haggerty is at a disadvantage, being that Andrade himself has competed mostly in kickboxing prior to competing in MMA for ONE Championship.

If Andrade can defeat Haggerty next week, he will make history and become a rare two-sport ONE world champion.
