Israel Adesanya's sharpened focus sets the stage for Alex Pereira rematch at UFC 287

UFC 281: Adesanya v Pereira
UFC 281: Israel Adesanya v Alex Pereira

Israel Adesanya has stated that he will not leave any stone unturned when he faces Alex Pereira at UFC 287.

The Kiwi is set to take on Alex Pereira, who has proved to be his kryptonite. The pair have faced each other twice before, once during their Glory Kickboxing days, and the second time in the octagon. Both fights worked out pretty similarly, with Adesanya getting knocked out in the final round. Ahead of his rematch, Adesanya spoke about his mindset going into the fight:

"The mindset is different though, definitely, like Eugene and I are on the same page. The mindset is definitely different. I like it, because it puts it all on me and it's kind of poetic in a way like I said one life, roll the dice. So it’s my last shot, Imma give it all I got in every sense of the word."

For Israel Adesanya, this fight is most definitely his last shot at the title if he loses. Losing two straight fights to the champion would mean he would not get another title shot anytime soon. However, if he is able to win his belt back, it would set up a trilogy fight for the ages.

Jon Jones has predicted that Alex Pereira will beat Israel Adesanya again

Jon Jones made a successful comeback to the octagon with a win in his first fight in the last three years. Ever since coming back, he has been involved with the UFC and the media a lot more than he was during his three-year hiatus.

Following his victory over Ciryl Gane, he was asked about the rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya, to which he replied saying:

"I believe Pereira's gonna win again. There's some athletes that just have other athletes number and he works hard, and I'm rooting for him. I believe he's gonna do it again."

Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya are not on the best of terms with each other. The pair have gone back and forth on social media and in interviews a number of times. Adesanya has openly made fun of Jones' exploits outside the ring, saying he tries to act like a 'good' guy. This could be another factor as to why Jones believes Alex Pereira will beat 'The Last Stylebender' again.
