Like most Dagestani fighters in combat sports today, Magomed Abdulkadirov also admires the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov.

As it turns out, the 32-year-old has a lot more in common with ‘The Eagle,’ particularly with the same unwavering support he received from his late father.

In a touching interview with onefc.com, the promotional newcomer opened up about some personal aspects of his life outside of grappling. This includes a touching tribute to his late father, who practically pushed him to become one of the best submission grapplers in the world today.

The Universal Fighters standout shared:

“My late father was my biggest supporter. He passed away in 2020. He watched all my fights, and stayed up to date on what my plans, travels and goals were.
His interest and support always motivated me. I fought and persevered because I wanted to prove that I was capable of winning at a high level. I think he was proud of me.”

Unfortunately, Magomed Abdulkadirov’s old man won’t be by his side when he takes part in the biggest match of his professional career by far.

The multiple-time UWW World Grappling Champion and the 2015 ADCC European Trials winner will be hunting for gold, as he attempts to end the brilliant Tye Ruotolo’s undefeated streak under the ONE banner.

If he pulls off the stunning upset at ONE Fight Night 16, Abdulkadirov will leave Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok as the inaugural ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion.

Magomed Abdulkadirov’s father may no longer be with us physically, but his son will always carry on his legacy each time he competes.

Catch ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video live on US Primetime on November 3. The 10-fight spectacle is free of charge for those with a Prime Video subscription in North America.
