American submission grappling phenom Tye Ruotolo, one-half of BJJ’s world-famous Ruotolo twins, has been working on his striking recently.

The 20-year-old and his twin brother Kade have been teasing a transition to the sport of mixed martial arts since they joined ONE Championship in 2022. But if recent trips to Thailand to train Muay Thai with some absolute legends are any indication, the MMA transition could come sooner rather than later.

The Ruotolos were spotted in Bangkok, working on their Muay Thai with former ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion Superbon Singha Mawynn and renowned Trainer Gae. Needless to say, the two enjoyed their time building their skills in ‘the art of eight limbs.’

In a recent interview on the YouTube channel The MMA Superfan, Tye talked about his experience learning from two of striking’s best.

The 20-year-old said:

“He was amazing. You know Trainer Gae and also Superbon. The hospitality that those guys have and also the level at which they work, was just really rad to see. You know you know that saying ‘Never meet your heroes’ but, you know, they turned out to be super cool guys. I’m ready to get some more training and all that has got me all fired up for some way.”

Could we see Tye (or Kade) in an MMA fight in the near future? Only time will tell. But first, Tye needs to take care of business in his next match.

Tye Ruotolo is set to take on dangerous Dagestani Magomed ‘Wolf’ Abdulkadirov in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video, which broadcasts live from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, November 3.

The bout will be for the inaugural ONE welterweight submission grappling world title.

Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video.
