Khamzat Chimaev and Colby Covington have long been tied to a rumored potential clash that is yet to materialize and appears unlikely to come to fruition in the near future as well.

After avoiding the limelight for almost a year, Covington recently made an appearance at UFC 286 and called out Leon Edwards. 'Chaos,' in a typically foul-mouthed rant, also dismissed the idea of a potential clash against Chimaev, who has since been confirmed to have moved up to middleweight.

Responding to Covington's latest antics, 'Borz' swore by the Quran, accusing 'Chaos' of lying. The Chechen-born Swede claims to have accepted the matchup on four occasions, with it falling through each time. The 28-year-old said:

"Colby is lying. He doesn't want to fight. I swear with everything I have. I swear with the Gods. I accept the fight four times. All the Muslims understand, I swear to Quran. I get four times call, 'you want to fight?' I said yes. I have conversations with Sean Shelby that show it as well that we're going to fight with this guy, but it never happened."

Chimaev also accused Covington of turning around and running away after seeing him at the UFC Performance Institute.

Colby Covington claims to have never been "formally" offered the Khamzat Chimaev matchup

Rumors of a potential clash between Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev have been afloat since the better part of last year. Despite the UFC clearly showing interest in the matchup, Covington now claims that the fight was "never formally presented" to him.

According to 'Chaos,' while he was initially keen to derail Chimaev's hype train, he has now lost interest due to 'Borz's unprofessional conduct. Citing Chimaev's UFC 279 weight-miss fiasco, Covington commented during a media scrum at UFC 286:

"[The fight] was never formally presented to me. We talked about it, it was the fight that I wanted. I wanted to derail that hype train... I was begging to fight that, I was chomping at the bit, but we saw how unprofessional he was... The guy’s a clown, I don’t want to ever hear that guy’s name in this division again. Let that dog-faced motherf***er rot in 185.”
