Who is Montserrat Rendon? All about the undefeated fighter competing on the UFC card this weekend

Montserrat Rendon is a highly touted Mexican MMA fighter who has primarily competed in Invicta FC before finding her way into the UFC. She fights at bantamweight and is one of the relatively new members of the UFC roster.

35-year-old Rendon made her promotional debut against Tamires Vidal in the UFC Vegas 79 prelims, securing a split-decision victory.

The Mexican fighter made her professional MMA debut with a unanimous decision win over Janetti Delgado at Fearless 6 on September 25, 2020. However, she turned her attention to submission grappling over the next year, amassing a 1-1 record in the sport.

Rendon returned to MMA in September 2021 and continued her undefeated run in Combate Global and Invicta FC. Montserrat Rendon last competed against Brittney Cloudy at Invicta FC 49 and secured a split-decision win.

Including the win over Vidal, her professional MMA record stands at a perfect 6-0 with four unanimous and two split decision wins.

Although relatively inexperienced, Montserrat Rendon skipped the stages like Dana White’s Contender Series and found her way right into the UFC roster.

Montserrat Rendon will return to competition on March 23

Having made a successful UFC debut last September, Montserrat Rendon will attempt to build upon her success in the promotion. The 35-year-old will return to competition at UFC Vegas 89 on March 23.

This time, Rendon will welcome Russia's Dariya Zheleznykova to the UFC one the preliminary card of the event. Zheleznykova (8-1) is the pound-for-pound No. 1-ranked female fighter in Russia, France and Eastern Europe. She previously competed in the European regional scene and signed a contract with the UFC recently.

The sole loss of Zheleznykova's professional MMA career was handed to her by Melissa Dixon in November 2022. However, she bounced back with a TKO victory of her own against Marie Loiseau in April 2023. The fight against Rendon will be Zheleznykova's first competitive appearance since her triumph over Loiseau.

UFC Vegas 89 will take place at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 23. Amanda Ribas vs. Rose Namajunas will headline the event.
