The Khvostov is set to make a return in Destiny 2 for the very first time since the game's launch. It has been seven years since the community saw the white rarity Kinetic Assault Rifle, which was the very first weapon Guardians ever got their hands on. Many players want to use it one final time in the upcoming expansion, and Bungie has obliged.

The company has announced two Exotic weapons set to be released with The Final Shape. Aside from the already mentioned Khvostov, players are getting the first-ever Heavy Trace Rifle in the game named Microcosm.

Khvostov and Microcosm confirmed to be upcoming Exotic weapons in Destiny 2 The Final Shape

The Khvostov Auto Rifle has a very interesting history in Destiny 2. It was the first weapon a Guardian ever wielded, which turned into a legend of its own.

The Khvostov was also the only white rarity weapon, leading many players to use it against Guardians just for fun. Hence, getting the same weapon to return as an Exotic is exciting news for the community.

The weapon's full name will be the Khvostov 7G-0X, and it will sit in the Kinetic slot. However, there will be an additional Exotic perk to the weapon:

"Every seventh bullet ricochets"

It is unknown whether the Exotic Khvostov will have a catalyst to add more benefit. From what can be gathered from the official announcement video, the "ricochet" effect of the seventh bullet is powerful enough to one-shot red border enemies and is something far from the existing "Ricochet Rounds" perk.

Secondly, the Microcosm will be Destiny 2's first-ever Heavy Trace Rifle, with an unknown element. The Exotic perk is described as follows:

"Deals massive bonus damage to shields"

Many are speculating that the element associated with the weapon is going to be Stasis, but the white-colored beam emanating from it suggests otherwise. Players will need to wait until the official launch to get a full disclosure.
