Caleb Williams became the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit after the Chicago Bears drafted the quarterback on Thursday night.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and USC quarterback was brought to tears over a surprise message he received from his mother Dayna Price. Williams received a lot of flak on social media for painting his nails, expressing emotions and for his vulnerability in interviews while in college. His mom Price, a nail technician, came to his defence and said Williams ‘must have got that crying from me.’

"I love the way you have moved through life, around 10, having a vision, wanting something for yourself and us being here today with your vision was you wanted to be an NFL player and here we are."

Caleb Williams gets emotional on NFL Draft 2024 day after Chicago Bears move

Williams didn’t take too long to feel the rush of emotions again as he watched his mother narrate his pro football journey so far.

"We're a tough family. We don't necessarily give too many congratulations and moments like that because you get to live every day and you're grateful for that and we're all grateful for that," Williams said.

The 22-year-old quarterback credited Price for pushing him daily in achieving his professional dream.

“I remember the times when I made the decision that this was going to be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” Williams said. “There were some tough mornings and evenings and she was always — I let out a few tears because there were days I didn’t want to do it, days I didn’t want to get up and she’s just been there to support me, been there for me.

Williams has a lot to prove in Chicago, after all. The franchise has just three playoff appearances since the 2006 team advanced to the Super Bowl. They last won the Super Bowl in 1985, so fans and analysts will look to Williams to flip the script in the coming years.
