March 2024 saw a new face for Tate Donovan Black in Days of Our Lives, as Leo Howard replaced actor Jamie Martin Mann. Introduced in 2015 as a baby, the character has gone through a lot of upheavals in the short span of time on the soap. Currently, a young man, Tate has been busy recently with his rendezvous with Holly against his parents' advice.
As the name suggests, Tate Donovan Black is the son of Theresa Donovan and Brady Black of Days of Our Lives, the long-running soap on Peacock. Premiering on NBC in November 1965, the soap presents the interpersonal relationships of the members of the Horton family, the DiMera family, the Kiriakis family, and the Brady family. Various other characters interacting with these fictional families in the fictional city of Salem make up the complete cast of the series. Tate belongs to one such family, the Blacks.

A new actor is reprising the role of Tate Black on Days of Our Lives
Longtime viewers of Days of Our Lives may have noticed a different Tate going out with Holly in March this year. While the show gave no explanation or announcement about the change, the official Instagram page for the show welcomed the new actor, Leo Howard. Previously, Jamie Martin Mann had been playing the character for a year since Tate's return to Salem in October 2023.
Howard has the opportunity to play Tate, who is pursuing Holly relentlessly until she gives in. In the recent episodes of Days of Our Lives, Holly has been ignoring Tate's messages. However, in the episodes aired on May 10, 2024, Tate and his mother Theresa's cozy brunch was disturbed when EJ, Nicole, and Holly walked in. On the other hand, Sophia has set her eyes on Tate and wants to attend the big dance with him, she told Holly.
Tate Black's intense backstory and timeline in Days of Our Lives
The very birth story of Tate a decade ago is tumultuous. Back in 2014, Theresa Donovan found herself pregnant, which Kristen DiMera came to know. Before Theresa could inform the father, Brady Black, about it, Kristen kidnapped her. The latter stole the embryo and transplanted it within herself before leaving town. On the other hand, Theresa failed to convince Brady about being pregnant and her abduction.
After giving birth to the stolen baby in Italy, Kristen named him Christopher. However, when she found that the baby had an immune disorder and needed a bone marrow transplant, she abducted Theresa again for Christopher's treatment.
But this time, Brady followed Theresa, and the truth was revealed. As the family reunited and the baby was treated, he was renamed Tate. Soon, Theresa had to leave Salem in 2016 to take care of her family, and Brady raised Tate alone. When she returned in 2018, she sued Brady for Tate's custody. After winning custody, Theresa left for California with Tate.
In 2022, Brady took his daughter, Rachel Black, to California to stay for a long visit with Tate and Theresa. Tate returned to Days of Our Lives in 2023, when he came to Salem after leaving his boarding school. He started to take an interest in his childhood friend Holly Jonas, who in turn was interested in Johnny DiMera.
While he tried to bend backwards to please Holly, including agreeing to create a rift between Johnny and Chanel, Holly seemed to consider him just a sidekick. Realizing his plight, Holly apologized and invited him to a New Year's Eve party. However, when Holly brought out drugs to share with him, Tate was horrified. Yet, he was arrested after Holly overdosed.
Unfortunately for Tate, EJ DiMera insisted on charging him as an adult and dispatching him to prison. Justin Kiriakis ensured that Tate was tried from a juvenile home, where he was later moved to a halfway house in Salem.
Meanwhile, Holly came out of her coma. Despite strict restrictions, Tate sneaked out of the halfway house to meet Holly and persuade her to tell the truth. Holly refused, and Tate was arrested again.
This time Tate changed his tactic and urged Holly not to tell the truth, as it would hurt people connected to her. This made Holly come clean, and charges against Tate were dropped.
The latest news about Tate on Days of Our Lives
Since his release, Tate has been pursuing Holly despite being advised against it by his parents. Even though Nicole has forbidden Holly to meet Tate, the teenagers often sneak out to spend time with each other, as seen in the recent episodes of Days of Our Lives.
With Sophia pursuing him and Holly ghosting his messages, Tate is in an uncertain position right now in the soap. Whether Holly responds to him or not remains to be seen in the upcoming episodes.
